Ain't there a Tau who is preaching the word of close combat? I can't remember his name. He charges into battle wearing a broadside and a plasma knife or somesuch. I'd trust a fully trained Tau to win any day of the week over a standard Ork boy.
Commander Farsight. Your shit; consider it wrecked. Oh, and guess who his preferred enemy is? Oooh, that's right; Orks. How fitting =P
You mean Farsight? If so,thats not a plasma knife, thats the Dawn Blade, its a demonic weapon. http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/O'Shovah#.Uys8GthOXcs He is a rarity, and,to be honest, giving battlesuits to the Tau in this situation is borderline cheating.Tau arent extensivelly trained in melee, and even if they did, their bodies arent built for it. Edit:Ninja'ed.
If the Tau gets his battlesuit then the Ork in question is a Nob in Mega Armor... Nob wins via Str8 power claw ownage. There's a reason every CC unit fear the Warboss... Str10 and the power of Gork and Mork make the Ork Warboss Da BOSS.
Actually it's an ANTI-Demon weapon. Courtesy of the expanded fluff in the new supplement Codex. It's a shame, if they didn't lose all the cool kit in Codex: Tau and have sort of sub-par replacements...and if models weren't so damn expensive....I'd probably collect a Farsight army, because I love the lore behind them. Ah well. Still hate how low WS they made the battlesuits, those things could actually be useful melee units if not for unnecessary nerfs.
Yeah, but unless it's Commander Farsight and his Enclave, then the Tau are going to be in for a big surprise when the Orks just use their guns as makeshift melee weapons. I don't doubt that they have sharp bits on them too.
There's still Aun'whatshisname who really, really likes his Honorblade. Not that it would help him much against an eight feet tall green monster that is extremely pissed of because his weapon isn't noisy enough.
