So as you all know the accessories system will allow us to customize our character to add perks, toughness, hp, etc. As Orks get bigger they get tougher and harder to kill. My theory would be that as we add HP and toughness stats to our boy he slightly gets bigger and greener to emphasize that he's bigger and badder than his counterparts as a sort of visual customization. Our veteran/elite/hero classes would have a basic size much larger than the standard but we would be able to further increase thier size. Limits would be in place to take into account doorways, Windows, box climbing etc. Thoughts?
Honestly I'd love it if the player's character grew in size as they level up would make some interesting and diverse progression from the other factions.
I think as you gain XP you probably should grow very slightly. Issues with this are as an orc gets bigger, it becomes easier to shoot and hit boxes might make things a bit weird. Maybe as an orc stacks up more and more enemy player kills the orc becomes bigger and stronger until killed? That would make sense, kind of a rage meter type of thing with pros and cons. The longer the player stays alive and the more notoriety from kills and general destruction they gain, the bigger/meaner the orc should get. So maybe make growth and power increase a dynamic thing instead of a kind of static thing. Enemy kills + Multi kills (x bonus per enemy) + enemy vehicle kills (x bonus based on vehicle power) + hero kills = a big scary mother fuckin orc And then when you die maybe this is reset, because no orc lives forever. Unless you are grimgor or ironclaw or something. I think it would be fun if some guy on a server became this huge warboss that just owns everyone. It would force the other players to try and cull the waaagh.
The problem with growth in kills is that it's both unrealistic for Orks to grow that fast and it's hard to do naturally with programming without sacrificing a lot of server performance.
Make the ork lvling limitless. We could see some big lvl 50 orks but getting there and and staying there would be difficult. Maybe after a certain point you can start losing points and get smaller. This way the biggest orks in game would be the most active and most successful, and it would take a while to get super big. I'm all for gameplay and character management aspects unique to each race. Makes playing your favorite factions more rewarding. Like SM could gain service stud cosmetics, chaos mutations/auras, and eldar....dunno what they would get.
This is only if you make the rate in growth ridiculous. I am talking about very subtle growth here. The longer an ork lives the bigger it gets. The more an ork kills, the faster it grows. If an ork is a fuckin prophet of mork/gork, than he's gonna be a monster to deal with. This is a very interesting dynamic to orks, and would be awesome if implemented. This system becomes more of a kind of notoriety system than anything else. The orks size should not be a large factor to the bad assness, more of a slight benefit to being good. Players will die, loose their size and strength, and restart. It's a rinse repeat badass meter. Another thing you might be forgetting is that if you have a 10 foot tall several ton warboss running around, chances are everyone and their mother is going to unload on them. So the chances of having some ridiculously OP guy running around a server is probably quite low. Either way this is pre alpha, nows the time to test these things. I think it would be awesome if they got this into a game.
Yeah that would be sick as shit if you could get mutations and glory badges as you become more decorated. If that was the case then ork size probably should be more of a player progression type of thing. Having a bunch of warbosses running around dosent quite make sense though. They would just fight among each other until the others got stomped out. Not to mention hit boxes would be ridiculous. Maybe XP gives a flat very small size bonus as the player progresses to nob-hood?
a lot of different size create issue with animation camera and level design. for example covers will be problematic.
Is there no way to make a small static growth increase at least? I feel like there is. Wouldn't it just be scaling models so their size just slowly increases based on a equation? I'm not a developer, but unless their current engine wont allow so, this can be completely doable. Sounds like the general answer is their engine can't support it. Would love to hear from dev's about this.
