It doesn't feel any smaller than the stormshield at all, nor does it feel too small against ranged attacks. I've consistently used it to ward off some horrible boltgun crossfires and make it to cover. It is, however, completely and totally broken in close combat. I've seen fast attacks phase through it as if it wasn't even there, it breaks within 2 strong attacks, you get stunned for using it - it's just simply a non factor in melee combat. Invaluable though for absorbing pistol shots. It's scary how many times you get shot just walking down a corridor or clipping off the edge of a piece of cover. Sometimes I count how many times over I'd be dead. *also, power swords seem to go right through it...
I should have clarified I primarily meant in melee. I have no real issue with blocking ranged with it, but in melee I seem to get hit by people swinging to the side of me very easily.
If Orks were able to sprint with the shield up, that might add a little zest to what we have right now.
That would actually be different and helpful, be something interesting for Orks to have to make it a bit different then the Storm Shield.
In melee it literally doesn't even work frontally. I've had chainswords and power swords phase right through my shield and hit me. So no, it's not the hitbox, it's the hit registration or the way the game code is set up. It's either designed to be useless in close combat and working as intended or it's bugged as hell. Also, I think it has a crippling raise and lower time in which you're vulnerable.
Got bored and skipped most of the stuff... The ork shield should work like a storm shield. The only difference should be that the ork shield is cheaper and less durable. If, just random stuff, the ork shield can take say 5 hits from a melee weapon, the storm shield should take 10. Random numbers and stuff i pulled out of thin air. The only difference should be durability.
Second this, i have sliced so many ork shieldboys while they were blocking.. well not so many, around 10 i think, and its not working against power sword at least.
By my current experience with ork shield, seems like its really not worth it at all to use the improved versions of the shield. The shield still serves a very useful role, but much projectile goes through the shield even when its up. I found equipping the most rubbish shield and as much armour/health as you can actually makes your survivability higher than if you wasted your time on the shiny shields that will not reward you for the LP they require to equip.
this is exactly how it is. if melee attacks go through the shield it is a bug, just like there is an odd bug where bullets go through the GA storm shield. penetration has nothing to do with clangs/durability damage. Penetration counters Toughness. Also, please don't try to damage vehicles with a chainsword or even a powersword.
