PC can fire 3 shots before reloading(venting), whereas the kannon can only fire one shot before reloading and the PC does charge and fire much faster than the Kannon. As mentioned above, the primary fire for direct damage is also much more valuable and should not be taken lightly. Not that lobbing grenades isn't useful, but as a means of defending yourself, you have a better chance with a lascannon than a Kannon Deffgun. Also to address the lascannon, at extreme ranges, especially on fortress maps, the accuracy starts to outstrip the Kannon quite easily, especially due to the size of the Kannon shell while in flight. It's extremely hard (not impossible but a super high skill ceiling) to peg people at extreme ranges with Kannon charged fire. Just as with the Rokkit Launcha, if you simply learn to roll at the proper time, you should literally never die to a Kannon.
The las cannons, zzaps, and reaper launchers may have recieved an accuracy nerf that causes randomization in their fire patterns recently.
I haven't really tried to test the accuracy on a stationary individual at long range, mainly because I cant zoom in close enough (at least not as close as a lascannon can) to get red crosshairs. I also tend not to do such things because a "close enough" mentality can count when it comes to the Kannon's damage radius. That, and I typically end up hitting the railing right in front of them anyways, where an oversized strip of aluminum foil can hold back an explosive blast.
I have seen it personally. Firing from the overlook at attacker spawn on pegasus at the quad at B I only landed 3 of ten shots due to random shots. This was non moving and braced at an immobile target that gave me an easy charge up to hit.
As a Loota who mainly uses the Kannon (because Freeboota, baby!) I can tell you that @Fissiccisst has got it down pretty good. The PC is much better at close range as you can snap shot someone, the Kannon is much more difficult to defend yourself with at close range. And if you're like me and you practice a lot with the Kannon, you can compensate for the way your kannon shot dips as it travels. Not as good as a zzzap gun for sniping but it does a decent job. I do think that the shot needs to slow down a bit though to allow other players the chance to roll out of the way And for the shot to not glitch half the time and look like it exploded just in front of you while the guy you shot just suddenly drops with no explosion. That'd be nice too.
"Orks have something they can use to their advantage so that must be why LSM suck right now" the thread. Just let us have our little quirky boosts here and there like cmon cuz
I mainly don't want to see the kannon nerfed because I don't ever want to have to rely on a garbage class like the Stormboy to break open an entrenched position. The JPAs of CSM/LSM can sorta do it, but the Stormboy lags behind even them. The only other alternative DLB has been trying out so far have been amassed dok poison suicide runs, putting the entire fortification into a green hell.
Have you tried formations? Like two rows of three slugga with shields and nades as a payload with three stormboyz jumping at once to cause fire lines to get confused. I know cordination on that scale isn't proper orky but it would be scary as hell to see on a recieving end especially if you get random pugs to go along and act as cannon fodder for the good of the push. (Which if you tell me thats what your doing I would totally do!)
Trouble is that our shields are barely above paper in durability, besides the 400 lp Big Metal Bit. And even that one allows bullets to randomly phase through. Had several times where a stormbolter guy just hosed me down with my shield up while a sizeable amount of his bullets passed through the thing and directly into me. We haven't tried such a shieldwall yet, but I can not imagine it would hold for long against any amount of amassed fire.
