So yeah, just like the title says! Even though, I don't know if this belongs in Orks, Ask the Team or General discussion. So as I've "heard" Eternal Crusade has the Ork models from Dark Millenium, as in the assets. I haven't actually seen a developer confirm it, but I do believe it. This contributes to that belief. It looks exactly like the "default/blank" Ork from Dark Millenium. So, I did some more comparisons, to be 100% sure. In Wars of Arkhona, we see Orks, lots of them. 1: The Helmet is the exact same in both pictures. 2: The Facial structure, matches perfectly. 3: One broken toof'! So, since they're the same and it's set in stone I guess, does this mean we'll be seeing Dark Millenium Models with some recognisable armor and such? Of course, with new bits and perhaps corrections here and there. New armor and modified this and that. This could even mean, that the size difference is the same in this game. I'm not complaining though, far from. I really like it, to be honest. Perhaps they should have a more Grim-dark feeling to them in my opinion, but that's just me. Here's some art showing more models and size comparison. https://www.artstation.com/artwork/warhammer-40-000-orks What do you all think of the size and look of these armors? Bonus: If you bought a Pioneer pack, you get a Squig in a Cage thingy. Then I found this. Could this be it too then? Speculation, of course.
Whether they use them or not the basic shape is spot on, so I've always approved. Wasting every DMO asset would be a terrible shame, even if most of them were dismal, one or two assets tweaked to the standard EC is aiming for is a victory for artists who might otherwise not have had their time, skill and effort on display Here, better DMO picks. Can clearly see they're used in the Arkhona vid (compare the armor): Same shape. Some tweaks ^
I like the models, especially the warpheads and nobs. The only thing that bothers me are the lack of claws. ORKZ NEED DEIR KLAWZ!!! NOT SUM ZOGGIN HUMIE FINGERZ!!!
Oof, some weapon showcase would be nice. Remember the 3D-Rendering they did for some of the Rogue Trader weapons? Would be amazing to see that for perhaps the Power Rippa'. That's true, would be a waste if they weren't used. I'm happy with them nevertheless. Indeed it is a victory, lol. One funny thing I noticed, is the updated 3D model you posted actually looks more "Grim-dark" like I said. It has more details to it and "markings." While DM is more cartoonish and less details. Yet, if that's the current model (Could be updated by now) are they "just" going to adjust the armor to that model or make something new. If they would adjust it, that'd mean we'd get a huge insight on potential Ork armor and Alot of it.
I like the proportions and style, but I'm not a fan of the textures from DMO. DMO was going for a more cartoonish style similar to Darksiders. They weren't using PBR materials either (you can see that by the amount of lighting information painted into the textures on the DMO examples). EC will be using PBR materials which mimic real-life materials and look much better/different in my opinion. I think EC could benefit from tweaking the high-poly assets from the DMO artists with some modifications. But they can't use the textures from DMO (which is a good thing, imo). Definitely a good starting point though!
You're both right actually... The fingers are not sharp enough. And I would love to see some ingame powa-klawz represented. Heck, normal powerfists will do nicely.
The claws on the unskinned EC model are a vast improvement over the DMO. Fingers are Tauren-broad too. I appreciate the attention to detail on those, getting them more jagged, and do keep in mind that was one of their earliest passes. But I see what you mean, their claws are fairly LOTR Orc and much less WoW Orc: Really looking forward to the upcoming Twitches on the Xenos races. I guess we might not see Orks for a little while, until GW are satisfied with BHVR's work but there is a lot to talk about.
I knew that! That's true, still early models 'n stuff. Yes please, more bulkier LOTR Orcs than WoW Orcs. Lets hope we'll see it soon enough! I can't wait till they begin discussing Ork traits and showing them off, even though that's a Looooong wait.. Imagine the things they'll show off, oof. Perhaps we'll see those armors from DMO once they've gone alot more into Xenos.
I love how the Orks are just like "This re-used model is good, and we can all agree it's decent", while the other Factions are all "THE PAULDRON IS FUKKEN AN INCH OFF GAME RUINED" xD But whatever, no need for me to keep banging that particular point. I'm reasonably happy with either Ork - They look a little doofy, tough and beefy, so that's good.
