A question about the Orks animations. I'm 99% sure, this is the first game were we'll be able to play as Elder and Orks in Third Person. They'll need to be careful about how they are to animate these factions. Will they walk, with a bit of a hunched back? Seen in DOW 2. Or as they are also described with running/walking abit with the Style of a Ape. (Orks do have Longer arms then legs i believe.) I also read trough the thread under this thread, which also told abit about Ork animations, but this is just abit more Specific! In my opinion, the animations should be a mix. I liked the outcome in Warhammer 40k Space Marine, where the normal boyz would "lumb" abit at you, kinda like a ape only using it's legs and then with the Nobs and Grimskull who would just hurl themselves at you, with their sprinting fitting just to their size. What do you guys think?
I think you are spot on. I had a talk with some guys about animations earlier, Eldar should be fast and elegant. Orks should be like you said, a mix of Space marine and DOW. I believe they will be using a trained Ape to do the motioncapture.
Well, that leads to another question. Of course i suppose the Eldar as swift, elegant and fast, but that would be a huge advantage? Well, i think that each faction will have their own "advantage" Eldar, fast and swift. Orks, Brutal and "Dead 'ard" As in capable of taking alotta damage. Space Marine, with a balance of both and the same goes for Chaos. (Or Perhaps Orks, they're fast too and tough. Could be a balance instead of Space Marines) I'm thinking something like: (100 being default) Eldar: Tough-60% Speed-120%, Orks: Tough-125% Speed-85%, Chaos/Space Marines: Tough-90% Speed-80% Does this sound accurate. Not quite sure. This is nothing, but how i would somehow think the "advantage" of each Faction, if there even is any?
I don't exactly care much for the depiction of orks just being green apes, but if you want to know an example of animation like that style take a look at PANZAR. View: http://youtu.be/PVnouMKYdOY This game is literally Megablocks Warhammer if you get what I'm saying. Anyways, I liked how orks are depicted in Dawn of War 2 for their animation.
Well yes, you are quite correct. If you remember DOWsoulstorm, each race has their own unique passives (cant remember all of them) and a racial ability, like Orks waaagh and Tau orbital cannon. So the game will work like that. Eldar will be the fastest race, from lore I think they move at nearly twice the speed of a space marine, but for this game you would expect a 20% difference, maybe. They also have the longest range and good short range, but in the mid they are not very good. Orks should have the most health, but least amount of armor, so they take more all round damage (Plasma, melta, psychic) rather than taking more specific damage, like from boltfire. They also have the Waaaaaghh, so in numbers they are stronger (F2Waagh will promote this). Since Orks are mostly melee and spray guns, it will be hard for them to work long range, so they have to get closer, like a green tide, and add immersion. SM/CSM will be the same in stats, but different in weapons and how they will play in combat. In the last ama, I think they mentioned chaos being more aggressive and having poor defense capabilities. SM are the all round race, so they are good for new players, but in saying this, they are very powerful. So hopefully bE balances them the right way to the other races.
Stop right there. Orks have lootas, that is their long range option. Lootas as in orks who use deffguns. In tabletop, deffguns can shoot across the board. Also big shootas shoot farther than regular shootas. Where are you getting your ork information? Also orks are tough, but that doesn't mean they have more health than other races, their skin is more dense than humans. All orks also have simple armor, slabs of metal on their gut, shoulder, or head which protects them from very weak shots.
I'm not sourcing it, we still dont have accurate information on how this will all work in game, its all speculation. Deffguns are strong, they have alot of range, but I dont think they would be accurate at that distance, there is a difference between TT and a 3PS accuracy will decrease over a distance. And I think the Waagh power will come into effect there, it might increase their accuracy or range, we cant be sure about it yet. More health is just there to show that they are sturdy, and in an Ork like fashion, take a large amount of damage without really caring. I remember a saying 'if you cut off an Orks arm, he will more likely beat you to death with it than give a shit'.
It's not about being accurate, it's about quantity of shots. The more shots the more likely the hits. Regarding how accurate ork weapons are, an ork can shoot a deffgun just as good as a bigshoota, shoota, or a slugga unless the ork is moving otherwise he can only make inaccurate snap shots which are only slightly less accurate than what an ork would already be shooting at. I don't think Waaagh! should affect accuracy, I think it should affect run speed making it more advantageous for melee units to get into close combat like in TT. At a lore stand point, they could use the excuse for using Waaagh! to affect overall combat effectivity so it is likely they might take that into consideration. Aside from all of that, the thread is about ork animations.
For as much as I would love to see this, I'm pretty sure that when last I heard the devs mentioned it, they also clarified right away that it was a joke. For as much as I hate to shout "SOURCE?!" at everything, if you have some indication that they were actually not kidding, could you point me to it?
