Opinions On New Necron Codex, And How It Could Be Implemented Here?

  1. will be cool to see once all the factions are added in over time Arkona would just be a total cluster #$%^

Ohhh, a tesseract vault would be awesome. I would love to lay the dakka down on a C'tan... then get zapped by eye lasers.
  3. From day 1 I have been rooting for Necrons to be a player faction at some point in the far future (I'm in no hurry.) However it seems everyone is content to ignore the new codex and pretend they are all robot slaves with no individual will, personality, or customization. A simple read through of their Lexicanum entry would dispel this notion of a monolithic Necron entity devoid of individuals. There have even been detailed player generated class lists looking at where and how Necron units would fit into EC. It is a bit frustrating having your favorite race thrown out on the basis of outdated lore and people's desire to mow down robots.

  4. Eh no. That's his view that they probably should be NPC only, and he even said not to use it as evidence.

  5. The main barrier for most people appears to be the requirement to suspend disbelief with Necron players communicating with each other as autonomous agents (even in the new codex, the typical Necron doesn't have much more than a few fragmented memories and basic awareness - they're still effectively slaved to the will of the Tomb Lord), because this is clearly immersion-breaking and therefore unacceptable.

Of course, the idea that Space Marines would be allowed to form independent leadership structures within their chapters and, potentially, disobey the orders of the war council and follow their own path without either the Inquisition or their own leadership condemning them as renegades also requires suspension of disbelief.

Obviously in this case, its clearly not immersion-breaking and therefore unacceptable, so Space Marines are entirely valid to be a player race.

I hope this example of fan logic helps make things clearer for you. ;)

I would also like to see playable Necrons at some stage, for the record

Could say that those going under different orders may just be under a different dynasty? The choices for weapons however may be what leave it to be difficult to turn it into a player race, as infantry would really be limited in what they can do with only Gauss Flayers, and Immortals only having a choice from Tesla Carbines and Gauss Blasters. In tabletop, you have a 33% chance of getting back up after almost any death (bar strength D weapons and those which remove from play) which would be pretty powerful and difficult to balance if player controlled. As well as a 17% chance to glance vehicle armor, with the most basic of firepower available to necrons. This means, say, 10 people work in a team, and that same percentage was in EC, it would be very easy to wipe out isolated vehicles, and possibly even small groups of heavy armor. I would honestly love to see Necrons as playable as they are by far my favorite race, and I'm sure with the skill on the dev team it is possible, but it depends if it would benefit the gameplay experience as a whole more if they were playable or a PvE race.

    simple truths are..

EC is a predominatly PvP game ..................... PvP means Player vs Player, not Player vs AI

Arkhona is touted as an "open world" battlefield ..... but NPC/PvE will be "instanced" so its not in the "open world"

Arkhona is meant to be player driven content ......... player driven content means players making the choices and progressing the victory, not AI being used as a crutch

WH40K evokes great loyalty to a players chosen armies .......... removing armies from the playable options is a bad idea and will only generate ill feelings

EC has no character levels or "End Game" .......... so there is no need for some NPCs to be tougher then other NPC's to deal with high level characters or "end game" gear

    Summing it up........

Let players play ........... dont remove factions from our options list and turn them into NPC's

AI is never a match for players
(they always work off patterns, patterns will be recognised and defeated .... even the hardest "raid" combats are actively "farmed" by players in every MMO)

players are always the best opponents

I think also Necrons wouldn't work as a player faction would also be customization. Let's say you play as a necron warrior and want to upgrade your character?

Do you use the gauss rifle?

Or the sidegrade that is the gauss rifle

Or how about the new guass rifle they implemented last patch.

Necron codex (From what I remembered) leaves very little for the avg soldier to expand unlike the lords and I dont have to explain why 300 necron lords running around breaks lore.

that seems to show you know little about availible Necron weaponary

    http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Necron_Weaponry_(List)

theres Gauss, Tesla, Particle, Melta types of ranged weapons

theres Normal, Phase, Energy, Power types of melee weapons

and every Necron thread also comments that class/units for EC would probably mean Immortal or higher since Warrior and Wraith units are held to be non-sentient,

and thats no stretch of immersion since every other faction already in EC skips the basic units as well,

    no scouts for LSM
no recruits for CSM (or whatever you'd consider the CSM scout equivilant to be)
    no Gaurdians for Eldar
    no gretchin for Orks

so no Warrior/Wraith for Necrons fits right in

    EDIT

and if your going to say that a lack of availible weapons to a particular class is an argueing point like your Necron Warrior example of :

    a) Gauss rifle
    b) Gauss rifle
    c) Gauss rifle

then the Eldar are screwed as well, with the Dire Avenger for example its choices according to the codex should be:

    a) Shurikan catapult
    b) Shurikan catapult
    c) Shurikan catapult
