Knowing that the devs want to have all 40K races in eventually, whether they all be playable or some be AI races, like the nids, the newly released Necron Codex offers up some nice changes and balances that could far better work within Eternal Crusade. Would love to hear what other people thing about the new codex and their ideas on the implementation here.
May I ask if you mean lore, rules or their units? All are possibly applicable here, but I would just like to ask if we are talking more mechanics or story here.
Ah that sucks, even still, will be interesting to see how they implement them as an AI race then, and how they will fit into the story of eternal crusade.
Probably as Hrolgard said. Is an awakening tomb world which is why they don't just wake up and rolfstomp everything now since, besides Chaos, itself, they are, by far, the strongest beings in the setting and lose due to major, major plot shields. (I mean, one Necron Ship can solo a fleet and suffer cosmetic damage eating Nova cannon fire like candy.) I don't really see how they could be a player faction. Yes, I understand how the classes could work, Necron Warrior, Immortal, Deathmark, and maybe a Cryptek as their 'healer', but... I don't feel they would have the customization options the other races would really have and balancing them would be an utter nightmare when their basic weapons can kill tanks, and the fact that they would be able to resurrect themselves without needing other people a lot of the time.... Just seems too much. Making them the 'harder' PvE option is better. (For instance, once Nids have been stomped into the ground by the boyz often enough, you unleash the Necrons and show everyone what for.)
Very good point, it has always been a problem with the necrons lacking variety, they do seem to aid themselves to an AI race better. Imagine going into an instance where you have stumbled into one of the tunnels in the vast necron tomb, having to fight off canoptek wraiths and spiders looming from the darkness as warriors and immortals start awaking around you. Can imagine that being a pretty fun dungeon. They certainly wouldn't be a push over either when it comes to defending against them.
Aye, there are a lot of fun things they can do with NPC necrons such as having a Monolith teleport into the middle of a battlefield. Stumbling into flayed ones as they are butchering through NPC Imperial Guard/Cultist.
Indeed, maybe even have a tesseract vault as a high level boss if one faction is significantly winning, even have a couple of doom scythes if people are dominating with with heavy armor. So many different ways they could be used, makes me happy just thinking about it.
