One real problem for LSM : Presets suck

The lack of Dire Avengers isn't always a good thing, because damn is it annoying to have to wait for ages before we can start capping, but I can understand why people would rather play a Swooping Hawk than a Dire Avenger, as even if the DA is faster at killing opponents it is simply not anywhere near as entertaining to use, due to their lack of any variation at all. You either go ASC to get an extra Plasma Grenade or better spare points for the Armor, or you upgrade your weapon to the TL-ASC like just about everyone does, as the TL-ASC is just a direct upgrade at this point (which I guess is fair given its cost).
Also, I guess the Hawk can take the "distraction" thing from the Shuriken Cannon and even the suppression if they wield a Sunrifle (which is normally a rather rare weapon due to its lack of killing power), so they could potentially substitute a Dark Reaper in a pinch, though I would prefer if they made the Shuriken Cannon be on par with the Heavy Bolter, even if it means it becomes even closer to being a direct copy of it...

Anyhow, this thread isn't about Eldar, so I better stop again :D

Yeah, I agree on that. Just making people use 10-20 seconds to bloody flank a point is hard enough to do, making people actually attack the points with time on and defending those is way harder :(

Though to be fair, I see more Loyalist than Chaos players rescuing allies, so at least the LSM is doing something right.

I'm mainly playing LSM but I also play the 3 other races, and I've seen more games with eldars/orks/CSM rescuing allies than LSM doing the same.

I... I use the Shuriken Cannon a lot.. I just find the other weapons far to situational :S (though I do have a reaper launcher setup for tanks.. at least till they re-nerf it where I'll delete it)

  4. Yep, went completely winless. Probabaly 16 games, give or take a couple at most. Got my ol' Powerfist and started getting top 5 each game, 15-25 kills a match and still nope. Not happening.

I should say that I saw at least two people complain that they just wasted their money on this game, probably won't see them again. I thought about trying to tell them it's not necessarily that bad but couldn't find the energy to typie it all out heh.

    That was rough, oof.

  5. Wut?! So i am the only one they constantly leave on the ground downed? Even when they play apothecary? o_O
They must smell that i main CSM...

I like bolters, and I don't get time with my stalker bolter otherwise.

Right, I'm not saying that Tacticals are bad we shouldn't use them @Celestia , nor that Eldar are better off not using DAs @Noromiz, it's just that a team of 10 Tacticals, 3 Bolter Apothecaries, one heavy Bolter and a shield bro is probably going to struggle against a more balanced team. I've been seeing that kind of combo more often than previously, and I'm guessing it's mostly new players starting simple.

Finally, a post on balance that is constructive and not filled with nonsense.

I agree, I have a level 6 Ork and a level 6 LSM and I unlocked all 30k boxes on both toons.

And by far the worst part about playing both was unlocking things like boltgun weapon attachments, vengeance storm bolter, meltaguns, lascannons, etc.

Now that I have everything, it's easy to play - but barrel magazines and weapon grips for boltguns? Those things are virtually mandatory. The presets don't have any of that stuff, and you can't even build a real custom class that comes close to the LP cap without being at least level 3.

That said, neither Orks nor CSM have an AV preset. Orks have default choppas which are literally chainswords. Aside from the Sorc power sword, same thing with CSM. No meltabombs, no krak grenades. No Lascannons...

Maybe factions should have a basic preset for covering most of the important bases for each faction. Lascannons or another anti vehicle weapon could go a long way if it was available to begin with. I can't tell you amount of times on fortress maps I have said right from the start, make tanks/transports a priority and the response I mostly get is, "I haven't unlocked an anti vehicle weapon yet."

Having that available to newbs from the start might teach them it is not all about your killcount.

Also not just fortress maps. Players need to learn more that if you consistently target transports, you are making life much more difficult for the enemy. Yet in most games you see multiple enemy transports all lined up outside a cap point with nobody doing anything about them and then people wonder how the point got capped so easily.. Also the amount of people crying about Eldar tanks running people over, well there's an easy fix for that.. Lascannons!

Futhermore it's not like lascannon and deffgun zap were weapons you can properly use at CQC (unlike the Fire Dragon's basic weapon), which means giving a lascannon/deffzap preset wouldn't cause imbalance issues.

(That said, I'm not blaming the Eldar, nor asking for a nerf)
