The title might sound very general, but I'm specifically thinking on whether we as Eldar should form an alliance of sorts (that's why it's between quotes in the title) with the Space Marines, seeing as how Orks and Chaos are truer enemies of the Eldar, and more often than not, our goals will conflict more with those factions than with those of the SM. (Generally speaking, and at least in terms of fluff. It remains to be seen how our interests will work out in the game). But if it is indeed the case, then I thought about proposing an "alliance" with the SM. This doesn't mean we won't attack each other or stay out of each other's way, though. Like with tabletop alliances, it will only last during specific battles where it is beneficiary to be in an alliance. So if for example, there are four factions contesting an objective, Eldar and SM players will focus on taking down Orks and Chaos before focusing on SMs, and vice versa. And this rule would be applied to any other scenario where another faction is involved. So Eldar would only fight SM if they got in our way and/or we on theirs. This could work as a standing alliance, and betrayal would have to be expected at all times, but when applied it would make firefights where too many factions are involved to work more smoothly. What do you think, my brethren?
Well, out of the three other factions, I guess SM are the most easily reasoned with. Also would make sense, biggest faction + the smallest faction. Still... I would rather team up with orks and leave the spesh mhureens fighting each other!
As Eldar we are not beholden to the usual ideas of 'alliance' with lesser species. If it is beneficial for us to aid the Orks then we should, if it benefits us to support the Space Marines we should. Chaos can obviously go and sit on a Harlequin's kiss
And we will like it. I'm completely warning of my bias because though I plan to play Eldar my heart first and foremost belongs to Chaos. That being said, Chaos is currently planning a similar alliance with the orks. If you can do Eldar things and convince the majority of the ork population that it's more beneficial to help the Eldar then Chaos has no allies at all, because nobody else will play with us
Why not let them believe we want to be allies and use them as cannon fodder? you know, like we always do.
That's only good for one time. And I agree nobody want to play nice with Chaos, maybe the Orks if they're offered a good fight, haha. We might "ally" with the Orks, but ultimately SM are a bit more reliable. I think these sort of agreements will start to show up eventually during the game. In the year 40,000 there is only war, and no faction can ever truly trust another, but I believe en order of preference of enemies would be beneficial to all. So Eldar would rather fight Chaos, then Orks, then Space Marines. If there's a scenario where we would have to choose who to fight, it would be best to be on the same page as the faction we're not fighting against. If that makes any sense.
As so far, the Imperial consensus is that they'd rather trust their own strength than trust you treacherous xenos for a moment. As for the Orks, they are of a similar opinion; you know "ta smash dem puny Eldar." I'm afraid the first alliances will likely be we and the Orks, as we both prefer the method of first we'll crush both of your armies, then we turn on each other to contest the point amongst ourselves. In short, you're arrogance has left you alone amongst numerous enemies.
Well we could just open a big conversation among us , if you desire privacy. I'll hold off any though for now, if most of you wants to keep this matter a secret
