That's the Imperium of man for you. Forget about efficiency and using your brain, just mindlessly kill anything that isn't human.

One thing I want to know is, how long does it take for the ork to fully grow?

Da orkz growin yearz under da ground. And after dey grow until dey die.
  5. According to the Ork codex, in the wake of an Ork invasion leaving behind numerous spores, the gretchins and squigs grow first, being smaller, and prepare the area for the arrival of their larger overlords. The Orks take a relatively short period to gestate, so I'd say that gretchen take only a few days, while Orks take somewhere between a week and a month.

    Wot codex iz dis?
  7. 4th, I believe. I remember reading it in the codex but I can't remember which page it was on. I don't think it gives exact timeframes, I'm just guessing based on what it says.

edit: right. It doesn't explicitly state it but it's widely accepted that grots and squigs being smaller than orks means that they gestate faster, and then prepare for the arrival of their larger kin. It is stated that snotlings and grots watch after the squigs, and that Ork spores can grow into anything from simple fungus to full-grown orks given conditions, which helps lead to this inference.

Then another question to add to the "how long for an ork to grow?"

How long for an Ork to become a Nob? How many Orks become a nob? If I'm interested in growing to Nob-hood, what should I do?!
