Considering that it will break and that it will not kill you if you pay attantion,unless you prefer to just stand there facetanking stuff,then it is pretty similar to going against a SB as a bolter user.

The spell is buggy to start casting. This "huge distance" is 100m. You can very easily kill sorcs with PC or two guys shooting him at once, and if he's channeling SoC then he's not healing himself. SoC does not kill anywhere near in the same time as a bolter at that range, and especially not as you get closer. Should we nerf bolter damage because it's too high up close compared to the flat amount being done by beams up close?

My post was about someone running away. 100m is a huge distance to run compared to the 5-10m of a shieldbro. That was the whole point of that argument. I never said attacking the AS wasn't an option, just narrowing the situation down to running away which was the situation he put forth.

Also, the SoC does kill just as well as a bolter at any range. Sure the AS may die, but so will his attacker due to poison stacks. Assuming of course there isn't a pocket Apo around and the sorc is reasonably accurate enough to put proper stacks upon the target so he doesn't have time to medkit. If an enemy does have time to medkit, the AS must have stopped channeling at some point in the engagement.

Also it isn't just the 100m range of the SoC, it's the 100m range with perfect accuracy and lock-on. Any other weapons bar the stalker and lascannon won't be effective at even 100m because of the accuracy changes, which forces a harsh reduction in dps.

Seriously though, if we are entertaining the thought of nerfing a bolter, this conversation is too far gone to be salvaged.

You dont have to outrange the spell to get it off you though,just to los(though cover doesnt work with that).
Dying by someone that you have allready killed happens also by other weapons(melta,nades ,plasma blobs) while it is lame to die by someone you "bested" it would require a lot of changes to the whole game to get rid of,something im not sure the devs are willing to do .
It still requires to "aim" to get the beam going and the beams (SoC) are notoriously buggy with their aiming.

The "breaking LOS" argument you're making, while valid, is a rather weak argument. All ranged weapons are ineffective if LOS is broken so...it doesn't really mean much. In fact, the same goes for melee weapons. Just because you can break LOS doesn't mean it is balanced, especially cause everything is basically rendered useless by breaking LOS (even Shieldbros lol).

Yes, it is frustrating, but that isn't the point I was trying to make. I don't mind dying "after the fact" anymore, I used to but the annoyance has worn off. That being said, it still secures the kill for the player using said DOT type weapon. The reason I say the SoC is just as powerful as a Bolter is because of the fact that in the same time it takes a Bolter to kill, the SoC can put enough stacks on an enemy to secure a kill, medkit or otherwise. Just because the SoC doesn't straight up gimp someone, doesn't mean that enemy isn't gimped anyway. This is the concept that many CSM tend to forget.

Yes, the aim is buggy, but the same could be same about all ranged weapons, especially after the accuracy changes. That being said, the bugginess of the SoC lock/aiming does need to be looked at/fixed. I still hold that the range needs to be reduced, and all cover should break LOS. Though, that is no excuse for the ability to have such an inconsistent experience. All weapons, abilities, etc need to be polished up so these annoying bugs start getting put away for good. We should be fighting against each other, not fighting against our own game.

I don't see the point of comparing Stream with any other weapon given that you have to actually aim those and land shots instead of just holding down a button. That's one of the reasons making this thing ridiculous and the range is not helping (seriously, streaming down from Harkus walls? that's pure cheese)
