Every group I was in, they were not happy. It wasn't so much the fact that HE was OP, (We can usually take a warrior if there is cover or we can kill his support) it was that there was ZERO cover from him. You HAVE to stay close to the point to cap it and even if he is melee, he hits more than one person in close combat. The venom cannon in general seems a little OP, but that may be just me. The one in the Crucible was a melee warrior and tore the whole team to pieces every time. Getting stunlocked sucks no matter the faction. I don't MIND powerful enemies. I LIKE a challenge. But when you are chained to an objective with a short timer, none of your basic attacks do more than tickle him and when you use a melta or krak grenade, you kill half your team because he ran into their midst after it was attached? I stopped carrying grenades because I got sick of losing teammates to them. (wish others would stop killing me with them) (edit) Also, do the Gaunts keep spawning when warrior spawns? Most other places, they stop when warrior spawns. I swear they kept coming.
It's extremely unrewarding if you fail, and a lot of public groups fail due to lack of teamwork or ability to coordinate with voice (because typing gets you killed in a pinch). There should be more XP granted for sitting on the point, maybe kills/assists...but more needs to be granted for something. Right now it's just not worth going unless you're a healer; all of the other classes can put in the work but get very little XP (a win is usually around the 3k mark...I can do that WAY faster in a PvP match). I'm also not certain if Hard Mode grants extra points or not, but it should have a 2x multiplier. If it was made worthwhile, we'd see it a lot more. I really want to see expansion of PvE on a whole other scale than we have now. Something like the Last Stand mechanic in Space Marine would be incredible, or modular maps, or more interactive environments...better yet, campaign maps like you see in Left 4 Dead: - Small things like "break this wall to escape" - Much bigger things like: hustle to rendezvous point via your Predator in streets cluttered with gaunts, warriors, and Carnifaxes - Purge the jean-stealer/Tyranid infection from a demolished Hive City).
Wasn't that Dawn of War II and Retribution? Or am I thinking of something else? PVE is not supposed to take the place of the PVP game, just to add options. Right now, the options are kind of lackluster. But I have to say, mowing down hordes of Guants with Storm Bolter/Heavy Bolter is INCREDIBLY satisfying. Doing it with a Dakka Deffgun/Big Shoota/Shuriken Catapult is almost as much fun.
I second all of that. I play with my friend mostly, and both have had the same impressions. Quick adjustment could be to lower the damage dealt from warriors. The health isn't as big an issue, it just means a long fight and I'm fine with that. I only play on normal though, once I found a warrior spawns in the sewer sludge on hard I knew i wouldnt be beating it.
I also want to say... Whoever designed the part where you have to carry the power core from one room where you had to activate the security panel through tunnels to another and a HORDE of Gaunts charge as soon as you pass through a door? WELL DONE! Marching through corridors shooting masses of charging Gaunts never tasted so much like victory! Then having Gaunts harrying you the whole way? IT ROCKS! Now if only I could do it on the map where the Ventilator room comes first...
I've played all the factions except Orks pretty extensively and I enjoy PvE a lot. I've noticed Eldar definitely queue the least. Of all the factions, Eldar are the only one that can't bring a solid melee combatant to deal with the warriors. Eldar players have to rely on evading or taking cover from the warrior while others shoot him down... either that or just plain running away. Most random teams don't seem to know how to not get destroyed by warriors. The warriors do frequently bug out though. I find this quite frustrating since it takes all of the challenge and fun out of Lair. I look forward to them being fixed and a little smarter. It mitigates most of the problem Eldar face in Lair, but when they get fixed I imagine nobody on Eldar side will queue for Lair without a premade team. They are really easy to deal with if you have the right setup with non Eldar factions. Power fist strong attacks stagger the warrior long enough to chain-stun them with successive strong attacks. As long as the rest of the team keeps the way clear of gaunts and doesn't get in the power fist's way, they are an easy kill. The power fist user needs all the support he can get to just land one clean strong attack. If I'm not mistaken, the power fist chunks for 2000 damage on a strong attack. This is actually the same amount as the powerful shot of the reaper launcher. 4 good hits from a reaper launcher would be enough to down a warrior, since 4 strong attacks from a power fist kills a warrior.
Well I've played it with several pugs and I still haven't completed it once lol. I'm talking about Normal difficulty here. The pug I did best with, we got pretty far in but then gone suddenly overwhelmed.
You were with me a few times, yeah. I think the Gaunts kept spawning in the Crucible. Or maybe when the power core was picked up and the door opened, they surged in? Not sure. No chance to stun the warrior though with Fist with so many Guants around, Teams were good, wasn't noobs running this ALL of the time and most of THOSE teams didn't MAKE it to the Crucible.
Thanks For the warrior, I will see what can be done on top of reducing the HPs. The warrior spawning in the crucible shouldn't have the gaunts spawning with him (like in the other rooms). If this is not the case, this is a bug. We will fix it. Hard mode grants more xp, if not then it's a bug and should be fixed. The intention is that you should get about twice XP you would receive in the normal mode. Thanks Guys!
