Bad ping means your internet connection to their servers is bad (probably because of ECs Servers and not your internet). You would have to upgrade your PC if your Frames per seconds are bad. As Djemos link says, buy the rewardboxes from the cheapest first untill it has nothing left in it. That way you don't get cheap shit from expensiv boxes.
It doesn't work like that any more. 30k boxes only contain 30k items and 1k boxes only contain 1k items. You can buy them in any order you like.
I suggest watching DJPenguin on twitch as he plays all races and is glad to help out new players. I'll help you any way I can as well I mainly play ork and chaos though.
Since I'm completely new (bought the game two days ago) I'll piggyback on this thread rather than setting up a new one. First off, this game really needs a real tutorial. The garrison thing is just terrible and teaches you nothing. Other than that, I feel I have figured out how to Eternal Crusade. I get capping points, transports, moving as a group, Squad Leader mechanics etc. What I'm having problems with is the actual combat. I mostly play Chaos. I enjoy ranged gameplay (or rather, I'm terrible at melee in games like this), but dislike the gimped mobility of the Havoc, so I usually go stock standard Traitor. I'm currently Rank 3, I'm stacking all the +Armor and +Toughness stuff I can (Mark of Nurgle et al) and run a modified Boltgun. So far, most of my gameplay consists of spotting an opponent, unloading half a mag on them which usually only brings their armor down, then getting promptly killed in what feels like 2-3 hits of return fire or 1-2 swings when they close into melee. At this point I'm genuinely curious what I'm doing wrong. Sometimes I unload on a LSM dude that has their back turned to me and they still have the time to turn around, aim and kill me with a bolter before I get them to half health. I admit my aim isn't great but I don't think it's THAT off. Is this simply a 'git gud' issue or are there some weapon/loadout combos I'm missing that could help me out deal damage quicker or die slower? Are there any general pointers to ranged combat that anyone can offer?
Unless you're shooting at LSM shieldbros, you just need to work on your positioning and accuracy. You need to aim with bolters(pressing scroll by default), hip firing will only get you killed as non ork/eldar. It takes 5-7 headshots to kill about anyone but most tanky characters and veterans, so just practice and practice and go for headshots. Bolter is THE best ranged weapon in the game, especially when modded. For more of a close range encounters use Combi bolter.
The garrison does teach some stuff you'd never know about otherwise, like wall-clinging on flying units. But yeah, everyone including the devs agree that it;s not finished and not a good new player experience yet. To the OP @mrZombi : don't worry too much about "optimal" advancements because the whole advancement tree (and loadout point costs and a bunch of related stuff for toughness & penetration) is all being re-worked this month. So, my advice is to first unlock an anti-vehicle option, with meltabomb or Ork equivalent being the standard choice (unless you're playing Eldar, in which case the default Fire Dragon loadout is fine already). After that just unlock things and explore. @Don_Silvarro : treat the Boltgun as a mid-range battle rifle which shines at 40m, not a submachine gun or any other weapon style. At mid-ranges, you should ideally be stopped, Aiming Down Sight (ADS), and landing headshots for the increased damage. You unlock larger magazine sizes (box then drum later), and the heavy barrel attachment will reduce the 1 degree spread down to 0.25 degrees.
@Don_Silvarro Aim down the sights, go for the head, and tap the fire button on and off. Don't spray - it's doable in heated situations but 1v1 you want to manually burst fire the noggin. Don't be afraid to pull out your pistol when the mag runs dry (you'll need to do this until you get box/drum magazine). Cover is yor friend - use it to regen armour and reload. Don't waste ammo on rolling opponents - they are immune to damage whilst rolling.(as are you so use it to your advantage - nurgle slows the regen for this) Stick with your team. As much as you might not want to learn melee; you will have to! Even a ranged character can kill in melee and it's sometimes unavoidable or even desirable to get stuck in. Light beats heavy. Heavy beats stun. Stun beats light. Learn it and use it - just hitting stun (LMB+RMB) as an opening move will defeat 90% of the fast attack spammers out there. The main thing to remember is to have fun - so make sure to create a zoggin ork character
Thanks for all the pointers guys. Especially about the invulnerability while in a roll, I did not know that. I have the Heavy Barrel and a Box Mag for my Boltgun already, I'm still on the hunt for the grip and the drum. I have been using the aimlock quite a bit, to the point that I feel I might be gimping my ability to strafe and getting a sort of tunnel vision when firing. I'm working on my situational awareness skills so I can work out a happy medium of when to aim and when to hipfire. I've played a bit more today and the situation seems to have improved. I'm still getting mostly body shots, but I am now consciously aiming for heads a lot more. I have also consciously tried to improve my position by rolling around and have been using frag grenades more aggressively, which seems to have helped a bit. I'm also getting better at countering melee, especially the button-mashing type of melee. I'm still getting pwned if a LSM assault dude charges at me with a power fist, but I guess that's intentional design, me playing a guy with a butter knife and all However, I now occasionally win a 1v1 brawl if they jump on me while weakened or with a sub-par melee weapon - before I was getting knifed and chainsworded on a regular basis. Let me tell you, those executions after I knife them to death are extremely satisfying, even if they don't happen that often :-D
