Tornadium I cant argue that the IG don't have high rates of attrition or that they are not some times expended in mass to stop the enemy's of the IOM
But I would say that's all down to the CO, some value there men like Hawkins from Priests of mars/lords of mars where as others like Chenkov just see them as fodder to clog the guns of the imperium's enemy's.
In the Iron warriors books the Elysian IG use grav chutes to air raid an entrenched CSM line and almost force the Iron warriors out causing heavy losses to the CSM (the IG are still get forced into a rout and most die but its hardly something that fodder can pull off).

Any way, on the other point I have no problem with the IG being hard to play, or being rolled in with other IOM faction that use them like Inquisitors and SoB, also have no problems with a bolter hit killing IG with one hit as TBH a direct bolter shell hit is normally enough to kill a SM equivalent why would it not kill a guardsman.

Honestly if they made the bolter fluff accurate anyone without terminator armor would be one shotted. Again, sometimes fluff has to be broken for the sake of gameplay. This is a game after all, and those tend to require good gameplay.

Pretty much. I've only read one book but marines were one shotted by bolters in it.

i have much respect for the imperial guard but to be honest there just cannon fodder

That's true, it is a personel held weapon that can penetrate tank armour at the end of the day.
I'm hopping for something a bit like SM the game where it takes some thing like half or a full clip of hits to kill an SM and then half that for softer targets. (head shots not withstanding)

That is what needs to happen, otherwise it becomes like call of duty with one or 2 shot kills on everyone. This is a much more receptive situation for other races and evens the playing field.

you can bend lore, but when you start bending reality, thats when it really starts to kill the fun.

Technically the vast majority of FPS games bend reality on a daily basis.

Take even a single shot from even the smallest weapon, and don't immediately die or start bleeding out until you perform first aid? You just bent reality over backwards. It's only a question of how much.

Still, I think taking an entire mag would trivialize shooting far too much. It would be almost impossible to take anyone down outside of arm's reach, and if they're in arm's reach why the hell are you shooting?

    This discussion again?..
Don't you guys use search and read old threads? Everything's been discussed already

As for bending reality, I think what he meant is that imaginary worlds create alternative realities. It's still pretty much just like our real world, but with some.. assumptions, I guess

Space Marines are completely covered with sturdy thick armor from head to toe + multiple organs, inhuman resilience, nearly perfect immune system, some of them can even spit acid and hibernate for a century or so.
Chaos SM are just like SM + they have been warped by chaos, and as we know creatures of chaos warp reality around them (making them somewhat unstable in our reality, though) and most of those creatures simply drive regular people mad by their sheer presence.
Eldars have superior tech, they are elusive and their armor is quite formidable too and.. They are covered in it head to toe
Orks are beasts and don't go down easily even without armor + they overwhelm. I think this one is clearly obvious

The point is, Imperial Guardsmen have nothing of the above. Their armor (including carapace vests and such) is usually just an armor soldiers carry IRL. They pretty much don't have exoskeletons, tau-like battle platforms or something of the kind, except armored vehicles and artillery. Just like IRL
That's why IG soldier to SM is like a car to tank.

Yes, this is a different reality, but it's still based on common sense and rules that apply to our real world

I'll just repeat something from one of the previous threads:
"Guardsmen are simple soldiers - humans like you and me. They don't have super-regeneration, multiple organs inside, feral bloodthirst or superhuman strength and stamina. Their advantages are the same as in the real world: tactical flexibility, interoperability and numbers. Armor, air, artillery, navy - main holding piers of the Imperial Guard. Without all of this - one soldier is just one human"

Their selling point is their zeal and toughness against all of those insanely powerful creatures mentioned above. And these SoB'ches don't just give them a fight but can actually win - again and again.
But don't go overestimating them. They are just humans and reasons of why they win have already been mentioned.

But, anyway, they don't make a good player-controlled faction in the Eternal Crusade for obvious reasons

most shooters are also crap imho, i dont like it when people reinvent the wheel. at times it is a necessity, at other times its a lazy excuse to find a harder workaround.
