Nit-picking Here: Will Esthetics Hinder Your Character?

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Dornschampion, Jan 25, 2014.

  1. In the previous different 40K games the developers have done a good job on making the characters with different weapon types slower or faster, for example in Space Marine when you ripped off a heavy weapon you would walk slowly, in Dawn of War 2 the heavy weapons units would move slower in comparison to others.

To my point, I can see that customizing the appearance of your character will be huge in this game with Seals and armor (armour for you European types) but should there be a limit to what you can have on you before it starts to hinder your characters speed or maneuverability? (especially Chaos with all their spikey bits.) Maybe limit the areas/amount of special items that provide bonuses on each character.

For those unfamiliar with some of the lore of this game Banners, Seals (or medals) placed on characters would give a character a certain type of boost, while in the actual lore it was more mental but in the other 40K games it gave special bonuses to your character.

As the Armor gets more flamboyant with gold and (in Space Marines case) Eagles of the Aquila, (Chaos) with skulls and spikey bits, Orks with skulls and mechanical add ons, eldar... well not sure what would hinder them outside of weapons types... should that hinder your speed and maneuverability?

Will this game basically say... hey here's this awesome looking armor with these certain bonuses but you will move slower because its bulkier. Or on the flip side of the argument "Hey I worked hard for that armor it shouldn't slow me down at all, regardless of its gaudiness." With that said the developers have said that this game will have a way of being very balanced and I feel the negative's of certain armor/esthetics need to play as big of a role as the positives of the esthetics.

    Your Thoughts?

Theres no gameplay reason to include aesthetics being a hindrance on the player, thus its inclusion is pointless.
This will also encourage people to strip aesthetics for functionality (which is entirely against what races in warhammer are about) and singlehandedly kill the cosmetics market that will be a big source of income for the devs when the game is launched (cash shop cosmetics). So a resounding no from me.

Also Plasma Cannon squad and Devastator squad have the same movement speed in DoW2 as a Tac squad last time i checked.

I assume that if a piece of gear starts buffing up characters it stop being considered as aesthethic, no?

    Or debuffing

Wouldn't make much sense. Isn't the armors power pack suppose to do the heavy lifting?
Carrying heavy weapons is one thing, but the armor is virtually carrying it's own weight. (Or giving the user strength to carry it)

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Yeah that's right. The explanation doesn't get any more detailed than "electrically motivated fibre bundles" that replicate the user's movement. Without help it wouldn't be possible to wear.

Yea it lets you do stuff out of the ordinary, but everything has its limits, and as much as you can run with the heavy bolter as a normal tactical marine as the weight does not stop you due to power armour.

Its sheer size is the problem which hinders the mobility, hence i say hold a chair in-front of you and roll forward it will not work so nicely, but this is logical thinking only.

In basic no info is out there that i can find and in essence you got no disadvantages.
