Here is a neat tool for army calculating which you can use on your smarthphones and on pc quick to install and easy to use. *note* Something to be aware of when you are including weapon upgrades for example as a Tau player I want to upgrade 3 of my 10 pathfinders with an Ion Rifle the roster currently includes the price of the upgrade as well as the cost of 1 pathfinder . I checked the Spacemarine roster which doesn't seem to have this. http://www.battlescribe.net/
Been using battlescribe for the whole duration I have played 40k ^^ I do recommend, it isn't too complicated and it is free.
It's great and we've had very few issues. One time you had to upgrade a devastator to a sergeant and it counted the sergeant twice. We couldn't figure out why we were 14 points over but that was it. Minor stuff.
sorry if im reviving a necro-thread but i too am entering the game aspect of WH40K. I recently acquired the following from a guy getting out of the hobby at my local card shop: 5 Terminators (4 storm bolters; 1 Assault Cannon; 5 Power Fists) 1 Dreadnought (1 Assault Cannon; 1 Power Fist w/storm bolter attachment) 2 Captains (1 storm bolter; 1 power sword) (1 Lightning Claw; 1 Iron Halo; 1 Storm Bolter) 32 Tactical Marines (21 Bolters; 3 Sergeants; 3 Missile Launchers; 2 Flamers; 1 Plasma Gun; 2 Melta Guns) i think this is roughly a 1150 pt army. give or take. my question to the community is: what else to i NEED for a successful 7th edition wargame? I am very new and i wont be afraid to admit that i dont really know what i have here. I understand you NEED anti air - ive got that right? if not, what should i pick up? Devastator squad? Assault Squad? Armor? Bikes? a Drop Pod? thanks guys!
I'd say a fast moving squad for objectives would be good for you so I'd get bikes or maybe Land Speeders for objectives.
Bikes are better I think because they get a higher toughness but are just as mobile. I would recommend at least a rhino to put a ten man squad in. It also depends on what you're running your army as. Like Imperial Fists could use a devastator squad but Raven Guard need rhinos because of their chapter tactics. I'm guessing you'll make Ultramarines. Adding a squad of devastators and a squad of bikes would let you really take advantage of your combat doctrines. You could put the devastators in a drop pod since your chapter tactics can give them Relentless for a turn. This also really depends on your local meta. No one runs a lot of air units around here and a large majority play marines. If air isn't a big part of the local meta, try a stormtalon or stormraven. The stormtalon could be good for guardinf objectives so your scoring units have a buffer
Murtag is right. An Assault Squad CAN do it but they aren't quite as effective as they are slightly slower and weaker. It would be easier to help if you could tell us the specific kind of marine you want to play.
