Just to be clear, this is not a thread about melee mechanics, just their animations. Personally I'd love to see a little more flow and variety with melee animations. Stabs, overhead swings, etc. Would you?
Yeah, I would love to see a bit more variety in my melee. SM and CSM having the exact same animations is kind of lame but I get why they did it. Here's hoping someday we'll get new animations and voices.
Good luck with that though. They opted their resources in motion capture animation tech, easier to animate but takes much longer to perfect. They need to get their equipment and actors together, set up the obstacles per animation (Jumping, crawling, finishers, etc.) but in this case melee and they've got to go through multiple takes to get it right. Then they've got to refine the crap out of it and fit it properly to the models' rigging. It's just a long process. Instead of 1 week's worth of animation trial and error of simple animations like devs do in the past mostly, it's going to take weeks for us to see anything animation related due to the animation complexity even if they put their shit into overdrive. Plus voices and mo-cap animations cost money as most of that stuff aren't made in-house.
Take out the melee teleporting and you have a deal. Of course we'd all like to see some actual animations that don't look like garbage but they first need to fix melee balance. Then we can work on some animations and make it not look like you're teleporting around everywhere with magic moonwalking feet each time you swing your weapon. This game gets bad reviews for a reason (many reasons).
I haven't seen teleporting since quite a number of patches. In the last stream Brent talked about some fixes to melee that sounded good to me, I hope they'll be in november patch and bring the balance we all want. Besides that, I don't think animations are anywhere near the top of the priority list. At least I hope so. Still, I'd like more diversity in animations as well
