Well if the las cannon ends up filling the role of sniper weapon thats one less thing the devs actually need to develop. Plus it would be nice if snipers could be used against vehicles again. Been awhile since I've played a game where you could snipe drivers/hit gas tanks/explode munitions. Just because the class would have a good range variety doesnt mean it would have HUGE weaknesses ( which it does)

The moment with lascanon is so comically chezy. I do not know how anybody can defend lascanon in current state. Ugh.

The Stalker Bolter is the Marine sniper weapon.

If they want to add a sniper class, they should do it with actual sniper rifles, not a lascannon. Astartes have proper sniper rifles in the lore and tabletop. Also the Eldar have the Ranger/Pathfinder who serve as their snipers. And I don't think Orks have any concept of sniping whatsoever, as a single skillfully-placed shot to a weak point goes against their species creed of never enough dakka.

Marksman* weapon. It's a regular bolter with a scope, not a purpose-built long-range weapon. The Scouts are seen in DoW getting the real deal.

    My apologies then.

Oh we can use one shot to kill something. It's just going to be a really really really big shot.

I'd rather snipers have to get headshots for one-hit kills than face snipers with lascannons that insta-kill me regardless of what part of my body they touch.

The Lascannon needs to be changed from lock-on to delayed fire where the player clicks to fire and has their reticle locked in place for a short time(I.E. 0.75-sec), during which time a targeting laser would appear and after which the LC would fire. The weapon should then take a moment(I.E. 1 to 2-sec) to "recharge" before the next shot can be fired. The weapon should also generate heat with each shot, so if fired numerous times within a short period it could overheat.
Head shots against even a full Armor/HP Marine should be an instant kill but a chest shot should only be a Down.
The LC should need 6 shots to destroy a Rhino from the Front/Sides, 5 from the Rear.

You could also change it to work like the melta-gun; by applying heat.

It should obviously not apply it as fast as the melta, say maybe 10 secs, and then 5 secs cooldown.
That should let any marine duck into cover before he gets too hot, but its not as easy to move a tank, so now you have a weapon thats strong against armor, and still weak against infantry.

I think I would prefer that way, as thats how current military lasers work.

In a way, that is a completely different weapon, that should just be a large cylinder, with a scope and a battery.

The current las-rifle is really more like a coil- or rail-gun that charges up and fires a projectile at enormous velocity. You can let it charge up like the other weapons, and then just limit the damage by target, so a tank would take 1200 damage on a full charge, but a marine would only take 5%, or 60 damage. It just makes a clean cut through the body without dumping all the energy.
That wouldnt kill you (unless head shot), so it would be a pretty nifty sniper rifle.

So you want to nerf the Lascannon's AV capability, which it is designed for, so that you can use it as a sniper rifle? Please not this shit again.
