You're seriously overstating this. An assault cannon is a slightly better heavy bolter, and one important factor that you're neglecting to address is that five devastators with assault cannons would be capable of targeting five different targets. A vulcan megabolter throws down that many shots, just in a concentrated area. It would be less effective than an equivalent amount of firepower dispersed more optimally across more targets. If you've got 3-5 players manning the Titan, and the entire faction paying a premium in resources just to field it at all, it has to do something effectively. Hitting single targets really hard is that thing. Most of what Titans do in the lore is...titan hunting.

That same argument could be used to reject the presence of a Land Raider: a vehicle untouchable by any single player and mounting enough firepower to vaporize entire squads. Individual empowerment can only be taken so far. Equally as important is immersion, and Titans are nearly omnipresent in large engagements in the lore. The battles in EC are looking to be quite massive. 500 space marines in a single battle is half of a chapter. It's very uncommon for more than a company or two to work in tandem.

Then, too: with the amount of firepower being thrown around by 1000 players per battle, a couple of Titans on each side isn't going to unbalance anything. Titans wouldn't have the luxury of wiping out infantry forces. They'd be entirely preoccupied with the enemy tanks and titans: the forces on the battlefield that pose a real threat to them. The infantry have their battle in the shadows of the titans, while the titans duke it out overhead. Only a victorious titan, who had eliminated the enemy's heavy armour through superior piloting and coordination, could then turn its attention to the ground battle.

There won't be ANY titans at launch for sure. This topic was debated back and forth and majority of users understand EC is an infantry based game and titans would seriously imbalance it.

As far as I remind, there is a 25mm model for a reaver titan (quite impractical to use, but still it exist and was use in actual game according to some pictures I saw).

In the rules, I think we have played different game, in Space Marine/Epic the scale was 5 soldiers per base and all tank were individual model. it is true that I could field 3 company with a few support, which make Epic a close scale to what EC want to do.

About the power, I remind that the amour in Red Orchestra did make it a problem even though they can theorically shot down a dozen soldiers and most soldiers cannot attack them. Players just learn to hide from the beast and let specialized unit shot them (of course it is FPS, so the tank is half blind most of the time, that why First person is bettre for vehicule, in a 3rd person view for tank driving you get an insane capacity to view the battlefield that is totally unrealistic). I the presence of anti-tank/anti-titan unit is well balanced the inclusion of super-Heavy Tank or Titan shouldn't be a problem. Infantry will learn to avoid them and hide in building until they can make go under the titan to shoot it movement system from inside the shield. Whoever make a frontal charge against tank/titans is suicidal.

    I don't have a problem with that.

That would be better indeed. The more I hear about Inquisition the more I believe that intra faction fight will hapen in time.

The devs are not even sure about the dreadnoughts or land raiders at launch (however it's very likely they will follow sooner or later) so you can forget about ANY titans in the nearest future.

  5. dreadnouhts will be not in at launch was my last update

hope I can remember where I found it...

That's what I said and I understand that perfectly. I know dreads are very iconic and I'm almost sure they will appear some time in future but for now the priority is getting infantry combat work well (+ some basic vehicles like rhino)- and that's itself alot of work to do.

Devastators don't get assault cannons, they are terminator/dreadnought only, dreadnoughts are not yet included and terminators will be a very limited resource.

Explain to me how a Landraider is untouchable by any single unit? 2 -3 lascannon shots will mess one up, hit it with a multimelta a couple of times it will be very badly damaged, you can tear chunks off of it with a powerfist or knock chunks off of it with a Thunderhammer.

As for wiping out whole squads, it has 2 twinlinked lascannons and a twinlinked heavy bolter. The lascannons then can pick one target each (hitting that target with both shots of the twinlinked) and then spray 3 or 4 targets with twinlinked heavy bolters. Guaranteed the 2 players hit by the lascannons will die (if they hit) and maybe another 3 from the heavy bolters but that's not mass destruction, that's 5 players going down.

I don't really care about what is written in the fiction in the black library about which battles included what titans, they are too big for an infantry based game.

Also the Space Marine faction comprises of 4 chapters to make up that 500 player battle force.

Then the game becomes a battle of the tanks/titans style warfare, like Bladerunner said this is supposed to be an infantry based game, not a tank and mega machine warfare game.

We are very well aware of that. No one is speaking of at launch. And we agree that Dreadnought and landraider should come first, then Imperial Guard as I understand it. But why shouldn't we speak of Titans if we wish too? This topic speak of worse things.

You can speak about whatever you wish just like me (as long as a mod comes here and does a little off top cleaning :D), that's why I'm saying titans will not appear and that this fact is perfectly justifiable (well, in the far , far future they might appear but that probably will be the time when EC will have all possible races, orbital fleet, several planets etc).

Tau would be nice...but i think in terms of the game model. IG would be a great addition to the f2p aspect of it as guardsmen would be free and up-gradable to a premium class.

Of course i would also love a necron army to awaken from a hidden tomb in Arkhona, playable of course..i fear necrons might be a PVE plague of sorts :(
