Hate to bring up "the elephant in the room", but.. Brent mentioned in the last mini-twitch (no.4 - 3:56) that " we're working out exactly what we want to be doing for their Specialities. (Brent) yep, Basically every subfaction has its own Trait that you get at the start" Brent goes on to say that the full details are still being worked on as its a balance issue. I completely understand that this is a WiP, but wouldn't it be better to postpone the vote until we know WHAT those specialities/traits are BEFORE making a decision? eg: i'm very much drawn to the Altansar for their backstory, but if the Yme-Loc have a "make-vehicles-harder-to-kill" or a "Do-more-damage-scaling-by-how-many-of-the-crew-are-Yme-Loc" trait, then i'd vote for them!
In terms of what the Eldar have, the Altansar are the only ones bringing something to the table that the Eldar factions lack right now. The vehicle aspect is partially done by Samhain, the focus on guerilla tactic and speed is also done by Samhain. The heavy gunner aspect is done by nobody right now. Warlocks + Wraiths + Speedsters + Warriors + Gunners is more potent than the other two combos. And Altansar also has the coolest background. They can add in the other two subfactions when they release Shadow Spectres and Super Heavy vehicle respectively, down the line. We'd be doing the community a disservice by voting for factions whose traits are mostly covered by existing ones, leaving players who want to play heavy gunner Eldar out in the dust with no place to go just for the sake of giving players of other playstyles more specific options within their already covered niches. (Wraithguards are not the same thing, you won't be popping those as a normal class.)
I see that as a form of meta-gaming. We want the community choice based on who they like and who would fit EC best in terms of flavor. Like I want Altansar to win even though I really don't know their specialties. I just like their general flavor and aesthetic.
I wanted to vote mymeara because Shadow Spectres would have been awesome to see, but then Brent said that they aren't going to be in the game at launch, and probably for a while after that, so for me, the thing that made them cool and special isn't even going to be present so don't see a point. Left me with Altansar and Yme Loc, and for me Altansars background just sounds so much cooler, even than Mymeara IMO, so i voted Altansar Warp Tainted Eldar for the win!
Its a good point. I'm hoping that the voting screen/thread will have a brief of the intended bonuses and backstory (yet to be written for Yme-loc). Nothing quantified or too specific obviously, WIP 'n' all. It would be a shame if Yme-Loc remained the lame duck due to lack of Lore. Also it would be a shame if Mymeara lost out because people are thinking "No Shadow Spectres! Pffft".
Oh I missed that... but then kind of expected it tbh Guess I'll have to wait it out that little bit longer Still, gonna vote Mymeara I think, depends on how everything is portrayed when we go to choose! I completely agree with this and hope for the same, guess we'll see!
Yeah, I was leaning Mymeara due to the practicality of getting Shadow Spectres, but if those are off the table for the time being, Altansar certainly gets my vote tomorrow for their awesome backstory and an excuse to keep my helmet on forever.
Maybe Mymeara could get some sub-faction specific gear for Swooping Hawks that makes them close to Shadow Spectres if you choose to go with that loadout. I'm not sure they're worth making an entirely new class for.
The danger with that style of sub faction perks is that classes and sub-factions start to get pigeonholed. I.e. Altansar players = Dark Reapers Blood Angles = Assault mehrines Iyanden = Wraithguard Spez Wufs = Dog walkers etc.....
