First of all, when did this become an anime thread? Secondly, seeing people use the term 'ninja' hurts my soul. Especially because now it's an actual word, replacing the originator, and the 'true' word for what people think of. (True in this case being subjective, of course.) That word being Shinobi/Kunoichi, for male/female 'ninja', respectively. Thirdly, I really dislike the new Dbash animations as well. I suppose they thought they had to change it because all the comments about the delay after the first one, and the comments about the Banshee/melee classes having the same melee attack 'sets' that all the Eldar classes shared. (And still do, to an extent.) Fourth, there's really no way to do the melee in this game in a 'realistic' fashion, since each attack the player would make has to be appropriately telegraphed so your opponent can counter you. In reality, you'd never want to telegraph your attacks so much, unless you're drawing your opponent into a feint and plan to surprise them when they least expect it.
@Cat @Brujah Nice bloodline, quite short tempered and in vampires books years before computer games. But even if it could have been better the two PC game was fun but buggy. As for ninja the word refer to peasant in black pyjamas getting attention when the real agent is doing his work. Nothing but black pyjamas call to guards that way.
@Cat Seems 'ninja' and 'shinobi' are two different pronunciations of the same kanji, so it would depend on where in Japan the speaker was from, I would imagine. Neither is really more or less correct (though 'ninja' has Chinese influences, so I guess at a real stretch 'shinobi' would be the more traditional of the two). @Ephaistos The black pyjamas thing is more of a hang-up from theatre, where the shinobi (just for you, Cat ) would be dressed in black, as the backgrounds were black and this was to illustrate they were hidden from plain sight.
Some good stuff here people, why not summon some dev names? I recall during a twitch show that someone mentioned that the dbash was changed because (unlike other races) you couldn't tell what move they where going to do so opponents can have a chance to block it via the rock, paper scissors play style.
Could be true, but I find it to be the complete opposite now. I thought it was really easy to telegraph before and much harder now. Especially the Reaper animation.
Exactly, when I played against the Eldar I could easily distinguish their attacks from dbashes as well for their poses clearly telegraphed their intentions - the only small shortcoming was its speed, it could be just a bit faster. They dont visit these open branches of the forum, they have the private sections + their own developmental agendas surely officially approved by their corporate management and used in regular work (what they are paid for) - so our chances to actually somehow impact this game's development through these countless threads are really infinitesmall , I understand this clearly and simply express my opinion, nothing more
They do get an alert when you use the @name feature and if they feel that its important they will respond. Regardless of your predictions it doesn't hurt to do it. Most may still be on break at this time though. @Oveur @NoahWard @KatieFleming @BrentEllison "HEY DEVS! THESE SPACE ELVES DONT LIKE YOUR CRAPPY ANIMATIONS!" K, there ya go! Hope it helps!
You know....I like the new animations. Managed to actually play against eldar a few games (crazy amiright!?) and I liked how they looked while fighting. They were harder to predict but thats better than the previous "I'ma gonna kick you...hang on here it comes....crap you dodged" animation they had. They still die to bullets just as easy. They just seem to be able to counter melee better than before. Although powerswords are still too fast to actually prevent it seems.
Instead of making a new thread i'll post this here. Is it just me or is the starting windup time of the new dbash very similar to how strong attacks begin? I don't know why it took until today (maybe cause i rarely fight against eldar when not playing as them since the update) for me to notice this but i'm having such a hard time telling when an eldar opponent is about to hit me with between a strong attack or a bash. This case may even be worse than the original ork ones in how similar the animations were.
Indeed it is. It's not only the same windup time but their stances are almost copies of those ones used in strong attacks - well, at least for banshees this is definitely true, for the other classes (apart from Reapers) only windup time the same, the poses differ slightly (yet they're noticeable only if you look closely - a luxury you cant often afford yourself in a turmoil of battle).
