Ugh, this argument is still going on? I believe that taking the Necrons away from the players to just increase the variety of PvE is just a bad idea in general. The player base will get a lot more enjoyment from a new race of player controlled enemies than just some NPC's that show up periodically. For those that say the Necrons would add some variety to the Tyranids because they are harder to kill, remember that the Tyranid horde is not just composed of swarms of weak Gaunts; they have Warriors, Hive/Tyrant Gaurd, and all sorts of massive and unique units. If all of these are added there will be a boat load of variety in the combat you could encounter; from a swarm of Gaunts and Gargoyles one battle to a brood of Carnifexs the next time. So how about we actually wait and see what the Devs have in store for us before we start predicting the longevity and entertainment value of the PvE elements of this game. We have literally seen nothing of the Tyranids yet except for a Gaunt model. Its too early to be criticizing the PvE when we have nothing at all to base our opinions on yet. On a side note: would it be so hard to just add some hive equivalent area's only accessible by certain races filled with NPC's of the playable races. That way you could have some PvE fun-time with races other than Tyranids, add some variety for those who are seemingly desperate for it and we could stop this ridiculous talk of taking the Necrons away from the players. In addition, its worth mentioning that the Necrons are number two on pretty much every poll raised so far for deciding the next faction to be added, after the Tau, so its pretty clear that a lot of people want to play this race. Me included.
The PVE in LoL I am talking about is the Coop-vs-AI mode. You can play vs bot champions. Just like in Counterstrike or other shooters. And making a PVE faction out of a PVP one entails a lot more than just changing the models. You need to make specific AI for every class. And then the quests need to be tailor made for every faction, etc, etc.
I don't want to keep necrons from being PvP (in fact, I would love to duel one with an eldar character), but I think they could work just as well as PvE, too. That can be solved by either not thinking it as a rival for tyranids or, if all else fails, by investigating if they could be a playable race too. It would certainly be difficult but if the game is successful, sure the 'nids could come too. But I don't see a reason they would prevent Necrons from being both PvE and PvP. Also there was nothing said about it being allied and immune to attacks from them, or them somehow helping out the other.
I couldn't agree more. All the people saying we will get bored of the Tyranids are selling the faction really cheaply. They offer so much variety and depth.
Guess what they do in Lol...introduce new champs and guess what those champs can be played against as NPCs...see where I am going with this lol Add new champs for each race that can double as NPC enemies for the procedural instances is all I am saying. I am not even arguing for Necrons as the only PVE/PVP race, just saying this isn't rocket surgery that benefits everyone. PVErs more pve variety PVPers more PVP in their PVE Miguel gets $$$ from more RT sales of these "Hybrid" heroes if added. Necrons can be added as both, Tau, IG, Nids, etc. all can be added with both in mind for maximum fanbase pleasure without costing more solely towards PVE. Of course it is more difficult than slapping in a model, but the beauty of it is that it is not some insurmountable task considering the benefit to the longevity of the game and profitability for the devs. As for quests I don't know of any planned for the game other than achievement style "quests" instead of WoW like quests. Programming modules of code is very reusable anyways so if there are "quests" to kill 100 tyranids then you can convert it to do the same for any object by name and criteria.
Exactly, just imagine the types of battles you could get into if they could provide 1000 unit AI armies for us to fight (provided their server tech works for AI's too) on the surface. I can't think of any race better than the Tyranids to provide that experience. I think its way too early for us to be arguing about features we no nothing about yet. At this early stage we should just be discussing our hopes and polite opinions for what's been announced so far and talking about what we wish may be added or revealed later on. There's no use in arguing and getting frustrated over these things before we know the full picture.
'Nids have a huge potential for a lot of content, including 'gaunt-swarms, carnifexes and plenty of other creatures. But that isn't a reason to use them for everything when it comes to PvE in this game. I don't know if I will get bored on 'nids or not, but necrons still give a large potential for additional PvE and also provide for a good opportunity to change a unique background and different kinds of fights.
This is incorrect. In LoL only a small fraction of champions have bots. It's mostly the earliest champs that are in the game since beta, which is when they introduced the Coop-vs-AI mode. And the reason for this is obviously the great effort it takes to program good AI. You really underestimated the amount of work that is required to create good AI. And in a 3d FPS like EC, it's even more work. Just jetpacking alone... That would require so much work, I don't even want to think about it....
You seem to underestimate a professional team of developers with incentive of profitability through a cash shop driven game. Yes it may be difficult but again not impossible for professionals who do it for a living. Fortunately you and I don't have to think about it lol. Look bottom line is we are talking about future content, like expansion level stuff. This means work must be done so beyond difficulty of AI what else stops every other point I've made I am not talking launch day stuff, and if it is one race that they want to include at launch I see no reason why, this early out, they could not get the work done.
I think I might actually agree with Cronty on this one. The only reason I think Necrons would be better as AI is so that they could really feel authentic. You could cut down massively on the immersion breaking due to player controlled warriors. Then again the elites would probably be pretty bad at that in comparison. Otherwise you guys have made some valid points. They for sure don't fit as well as AI as the 'nids do. Although if they WERE going to make another race PvE, I think they would be my first choice. In my opinion you can't really represent them that well in PvP without a few workarounds to the standard class system or concessions from the lore. They are, like the Tyranids, a bit different in how they work than most of the other races.
