Would people be interested in having the option to name their favourite weapon or vehicle or even armour. There could possibly be a requirement of a certain number of kills for a weapon to be allowed to be given a name against a fee in rogue trader points, driving a specified distance for vehicles, or taking certain types of damage for armour, melee/fire/explosive for example.
I was going to say no, because it would be weird to see everyone using relics, but then I remembered that you can buy named weapons in the store. So, I don't see why not.
I can also see a massive entertainment value as well if the weapon name comes up in the text of who and what killed you ;-)
This would fly in the face of the lore thought, Im unsure of this but im quite certain space marines didn't give thier weapons "pet names" nor the other factions for that matter, It would be a slighty immersion breaker for me and with the internet its almost certain a player will name it 420BlazeswagLife4MeYo or something more idiotic.
I'd like to see something halfway between. If you achieve something great or significant then I would like to see you earn a naming token for your equipment. This would allow you to then select from some pre-generated names or lists to create your named weapon. This allows you to control the names and also link them to lore. I.e. Dark Angels could have lists including Lion, Mane, Roar etc. I agree that having free choice would just lead to silly names and abuse. Sad but true.
Actually, they quite often do. How do you think any of the old relics got their names? Someone started calling a specific weapon a specific thing, and the name stuck. If we're talking vehicles, most of the ones mentioned in any of the books have names unless they are mentioned only to be blown up. If any of the characters actually gets in a vehicle (or crews a tank), it usually has a name.
I have to 100% second this. It's a great idea and it is absolutely common for soldiers of every faction to name their vehicles, be they relics or not. Just read some 40k novels. It's a HUGE misconception that only relic vehicles have names. The thing is, if a certain vehicle becomes known for it's legendary exploits and thus a relic, only then does it's name stay in memory. But they all have names to start with.
Yes i know where your coming from but you know its going to be abused and we will have this internet meme drivell instead of intelligent names.
