My Opinion On The Latest Stream. Mechanics Mainly.

  1. Now before we get started, I'd like to just say this, dont think of this the wrong way, I'm loving the stuff I'm seeing, but I want to point out a few things and my views on them.

    So the latest twitch stream came out, I missed it live, but watched it when I could earlier today. And here are my thoughts.
    1. Sheilds stopping spawn camping in a base? This was an idea they shared with us during the stream. As good as it is to have some way to stop spawn camping and a good way to keep strongholds defended, to me it doesn't seem very 40k. To me it's a bit too much like Ps2, and I haven't really seen anything like this happen before in any lore I've read, as far as I know, there are no shields like this. I'd really like to see something a little more unique than just appearing in a flash of light in a small room none can get into. Something like a drop pod bay, that catches the drop pods as they land, like in the dawn of war series, or a large relay beacon that can be destroyed by the enemy, I know they said they didnt really want this, because it could become the standard tactic, of infiltrate, destroy that then GG. But at least its more unique and tactical than a room stronger than every fortress in the Imperium's possession. So something a little different would be good, I understand it might be hard to make, but in the end, it would look way cooler.
    2. Rhino spawn beacons. This is something that isn't really bad, but isn't the best thing ever. I understand why its there and I dont want it to leave, but I would like there to be a tactical choice of having a beacon or not, so like it has been discussed in other threads, having multiple build options for your vehicles. Some may argue that it is useless having a vehicle progression tree in a unit based game, but listen for a sec. Having multiple options for vehicles should be in game, it would make the game more like TT, Say I have a Rhino, I have unlocked all the possible upgrades/addons/etc for it, I have a slot left over, I can put either Enhanced plating, where the Rhino becomes way tankier, or have a teleporter, that means people can teleport to the tank when it is set up. One choice makes the Rhino a charging battery ram of distruction, the other makes it a more supportive vehicle that can reinforce the army. There are 2 options you could have for it, there doesnt have to be many, just enough to get people to want to mix and match, so the vehicle is suited to their playstyle. This can also work for other factions.
    3. New SM: Look great, I hope we see more of them in the future, the crab walk creeped me out a little though. The melee combat we saw with it looked a little slow, but this is still pre-alpha so no biggy. Shoulderpads are still kinda weird though, they usually start to curve about half way, but EC's models start to curve at least 2/3rds of the way, it looks a little weird, hopefully they can lower the curve a little bit if its no big trouble. The bulkiness is getting good, hopefully we can see some more customized marines soon.
    4. Still no Eldar or Orks? I understand they are harder to do right, but common bE, at least a glance or two, I want to at least see Steven hit one with a chainsword.
    5. No nids? Well they are not the focus of the game, so no problem, but this is the same deal with Eldar and Orks, at least hit one of them for us!
    6. This may just be me here: The map we saw they said was about 2km squared, to me, that doesnt seem very big, I understand It would look way bigger when it gets to 8x8km squared, but it doesnt look like that would be very big to me. This may just be an error I've made or my judgment of size is wrong, so any answers to this would be good.
    7. Hero's: Yes pre-alpha etc etc, this may be the same case as the Orks and Eldar, but I'd really like to see some heroes soon, even if its just the base model for one, that would be pretty cool.
    8. Moar gunz an bashy things! It would be awesome to see some more of the weapons in their current state, just to get a rough idea of what they may turn out like at launch and share our opinions on how they work etc.
    9. Midguel is not getting enough alcohol, he needs more, because.. uhh... its good for him?... uhh.... I dunno, he keeps slipping out things when he drinks, its good for us.
    So this is just my view on whats been going on and what I'd like to see, please do share your own opinions, critisism is always welcome.

    Nice to know im not the only one who plays catchup on the streams every single time! but to the topic at hand.. . +3 for cohesive arguments and for the abdication of keeping "Midguel" continuously sozzled, -1 for spelling Miguel's name wrong and - another 1 for an enormous all of text.

    As for my take on the recent stream:

    Good - The freakin 2 square kilometers of map of sudo-detailed map and we are not even alpha yet!.

    Good - "Midguel" further clarifying the sidegrades (not that it will stop people wanting stuff for free but whats new about that?).

    Bad - The baccardi breezer.

    Good - Taking the clearly disgruntled players question, sweet gods I could feel his rage all the way downunder, but they dealt with it very well.

    Bad - The sound level on the video question.

    Bad - Still no unicorn mount confirmed.

    Good - The proposed balance changes to assault marines.

  3. Yeah the spelling is a bit off, Aus spelling-usa spelling, spell correction etc, computers are stupid.

    Good - Another (because Miguel says the same things on every occasion but people don't seem to notice) definite answer to the subject of PvE and themepark MMORPG mechanics in general...

    Good - My assumptions on NPC's as garrison confirmed 99%...now it's only about the classes, and I bet on SM scouts, Eldar guardians, CSM cultists and Orc...no clue...;)

    Bad - That Breezer..only the lime one is allowed...when there's no available beer...:p

    they showed an animated untextured hormagaunt in a stream weeks ago unless you're talking about seeing one live in-game
  6. I agree with every point, cupcake has.

    2v2 km^2 didn't seem big at all to me. I'm ok with 8v8 continent at launch, by I hope devs are at least thinking of making the it much bigger later.

    Rhino with a home relay beacon on it ... is ok, I guess... but it should be something really really expensive and a rare sight to see.

    I get why spawn are with shields and so on, but I really do hope devs can look into other options here.
  7. I agree on some of your opinions, but here are my opinions on your opinion :)

    1. if the spawn area is large and everyone is not spawning on the same spot but randomly in the area i dont think you need shields protecting this area, i would rather have a tarantula or automated storm bolter taking care of enemy getting to close.

    2. as i understand and remember the Damocles "spawn Rhino" is only for testing, and at launch there should be a standard Rhino with capacity for 10 marines+crew and a Damocles with limited cargo capacity. (fluf says no passengers so hopefuly only crew and ammunition)

    3. Agree, not just the sholderpads seems wrong. why don't GW give them access to there computer models that they have?

    4 and 5. i wan't to se the other xenos to even if they are not fully animated yet :) but i would be glad to see them even if they are just stationary.

    6. I have a growing concern about the map size too. i'm hoping for maps where half the adventure could be too travel to the enemy base not just exit your base, walk 100m and your in the enemy base. i get why it is so close when they are testing but not in the final game.

    7. want to see them too :) so show some of that transparency they mentioned 5 times in the last stream.

    8. Same here want to se but there might just not be much of them except concept art and we like concept art to :)

    Good - Transparancy

    Bad - Nagging about transparency.

    Bad - The short time the question thread was on the forum.
    Bad - The time of day the question thread was on the forum.
    i must have misread the forum beaus i got the thread to have been open for 20 minutes before closing :) when it was in fact open for a day

    Bad - going through the questions live on the stream, go through the in advanced ;) to much time was spent on finding good questions. Open the forum thread earlier so you can go through them before.

    Good - That they have a live stream at all, maybe if they do a pure question stream they can have a game going on in the background.

    Good - The video question, now we know how high the bar is set so we don't have to be shy any more.

A very good improvement on the models but yes the models are still a bit "off" the best situation that represents a space marine is in the Dawn of War 2 Cinematic, Thier broad, tall and intimidating, Now if this render of space marines is wrong to canon then i do apologise but this is where i started when it came to W40k (Dawn of War 1)




    Of course its still pre-alpha and we have years to go before i throw my rattle out of the pram over models being lore abiding.

    Edit: A good example of powerpacks and the jump packs are represented quite well here aswell, The jump packs right now in the dev build are....just...laughable.

    I agree that the new SM model looks great and that it also needs a bit more fine tuning in the animation dept.

    The crouch and the running animation to be exact. I honestly see no wrong in using Spacemarine as a reference to improve what the devs already have. Relic did an amazing job with the animations in that game.
