Of course there will have to be minor compromises in the transfer from tabletop to a real time video game, but my main fear is that these compromises wont be just minor. The fear is that things will be changed so much to the point where trying for example to play a Nob how a Nob acts in the lore will not be viable whatsoever and lead only to repeated deaths. tl;dr I'll be sad if trying to play a class according to how it is in the lore is not very feasible to actually win.
Naw! The Orks strengths are based on the Lore so I have a feeling that the lore will inform how they play on the battlefield quite a bit. That being said, bein' an Ork Nob isn't all about charging blindly across the battlefield, sometimes you have to be a bit more Mork than Gork and exercise a little bit of Kunnin'.
What he means is to make the Boyz go first to do all the hard work, and then the Nob finishes off the survivors and takes the credit for the kills
Look at WoW and most other MMORPG, I hope they allow a character to last in the fight much longer than in other RPGs. In the warhammer world that I know, the characters last until the bloody end! Last thing I want to see is one shot kills
No the boyz take the bullets and the stronger orks which are the nobz can get close to get the kill. But it really is all about perspective.
Well if the 'lore playstyle' is 'running at massed gun emplacements' then I don't think the Nob would live for very long in either the game or in the lore. I imagine Nobs are going to be given all the big melee power weapons they're so feared for, so the only question remaining is how to get in range of the enemy. You can send your waves of F2P boyz at something and hope you break through before they all lose interest from dying too much, or you can be a bit sneaky, which still totally agrees with the lore.
Exactly. Nobs ALSO are not very survivable. There is a reason they are not warbosses. The actual tanks are the meganobz. As Rock insinuated as well, ones "toughness" outside his stats is the situation he is in. NOBODY, space marine or daemon prince is going to survive running into a massive space marine gunline. Or other dangerous situations.
Dieing will be a large part of the gameplay. Don't forget it is an all out war, and war is unfair... I imagine it being an massive Rock/Paper/Scissors game just like the Nintendo Advance Wars games. Where some units will be better at beating other units, and that each player must learn to play his part as intended. Assault can hunt down Firesupport, Firesupport takes down Armour/massed infantry depending on loadout. (Much like the lore...) I share your fear it will be an impossible task to make it balanced and close to lore. But at a certain point we will have to accept these comprises will have to be made to keep the game fun for everyone. So the diehard lore fans might get a cold reception, but the develepors cannot and should not try to please everyone. For that is simply impossible. And we as potential customers should accept it.
