Multi Melta replacing Storm Bolter

  1. Actually my friend those of us who have seen how potentially game breaking the MM can be if not handled right(as far as availability in game)have been voicing our concerns since the MM was first introduced.

I'm updating the main post with the video I put together shown below. I'll post it here in case you're already following this topic.

Had some fun making this video. You guys at BHVR rock, thanks for making such a great game! And we're still in Alpha! I'm also having some fun with the feedback today.

I think the MM is where is should be damage wise, though it belongs in Tier 5, with Landraiders, Dreadnoughts, Baneblades because these are the types of platforms this weapon is designed to take down. The MM is a formidable weapon in the 40K universe and should be formidable in EC as in an Elite level weapon. Versus Rhino and Predator it's not really even a fair fight and really isn't fair to those who enjoy driving and crewing vehicles if the MM is readily available every minute of every single battle.

Even with a pre fire wind up implemented to make the MM a bit more difficult to wield versus infantry, this weapon still makes minced meat of Predators and Rhinos in a few seconds. For me one very big consideration is the fact that the MM being a higher tier weapon versus the lowest tier armor is taking away most, if not all of the challenge of taking down tanks and APCs. Having the MM as a base class weapon, available all the time isn't really what you see in TT or on the 40K battlefield. As far as EC,whether it's restricting the number of MM per squad, or making this a special requisition item(pay tokens), something needs to be done to reduce the numbers of these weapons running around every match.

  3. Oh there was that game... the Steampunk themed one. I cant recall name right now, about the floating city in the sky. I think they used this song, that or an earlier Fallout game?

I'd have a bit more sympathy for complaints about MM if I didn't watch Assaults meander through melta and storm bolter fire like it was a light spring rain. Supposedly the life leech is gone, but wow that DR must be great stuff.

Yeah, the SB's shite. I can do the same things with a conventional melta while forcing mutual kills, frying corpses, and destroying armor. Having more range on a weapon that's hilariously less accurate than the basic bolter (and 200 points more to equip) is utterly nothing of consequence. Also for slightly more than the difference you can carry a melta bomb and really take a bite out of armor while keeping a bolter equipped.

(also melta bombs are either over priced or need to come in pairs again because for the cost they're the flaccid second best to just carrying an MM)

Also nobody cares what the TT stats are because a) this isn't tabletop and b) in TT every piece of anything applies to the total army value. There's an old wisdom that goes "boys before toys" and buying expensive wargear instead of enough battle brothers is a scub's mistake. Which also doesn't apply here because this isn't tabletop.

I'm not entirely against the MM having a warmup speed. It is too effective against small targets and too much better than the conventional melta. I can absolutely believe an organized troll team of MM's works; I can damn near do that solo.

They also use melee because they get buffs for doing so. Pull that, and you'll be the King of the Salt Swamps in mere hours.

I wouldn't take anything GW approves as an indicator of a positive. They also approved all that Dawn of War lore than some people still rave about, they approved all those shitty mobile titles and by proxy they approve of the currently worthless storm bolter.

GW doesn't know what the fuck it's doing, but they know what money looks like. Keep that in mind.

I just don't want to see the gun nerfed to near uselessness like the Tac/Traitor melta is...It's the only useful weapon Dev has at the moment until the HB's issues get worked out (Then I will happily embrace the dakka).

That said, alpha is alpha, balancing later will be the final teller, not these tweaks we see each patch.

  9. The problem is the "Assault" version, aka Meltagun is inferior to the MM in every way. I used to run with an "engineer" build where I'd drive the squad Rhino the entire match carrying Meltagun, Krak and Repair kit. Repairing the Squad Rhino, destroying enemy vehicles, having a blast the entire time. Now that the MM has been introduced there's no real reason to carry the Meltagun.

The MM doesn't need to be nerfed per say, just a slight change in how it fires, ie a 1 to 1.5 second pre firing wind up and it should be a lot more unwieldy once you're firing. Additionally this should be a Tier 5 weapon, in the same category as the type platforms the MM is designed to kill. Dreadnoughts, Monstrous Creatures, Landraiders, Baneblades, Leman Russ, smaller Imperial Knights, and other HUGE units. By Tier 5 I mean the MM should be an Elite/Hero level weapon, not readily available so you can have half your 10 man squad running around with MM an entire match. The weapon is just too powerful and wrecks all balance to allow it to be a standard loadout item. The Multi Melta is a hunter without worthy prey because the types of vehicles and monsters the MM is designed to kill aren't even in game.

So why is a devestator's weapon supposed to be inferior? What would be the benefit to taking a heavy slow class if the weapons were worse than a tactical who is fast rolling and capturing points while having a bigger threat in melee. A heavy bolter should be more deadly than a bolter, and a plasma gun should be worse than a plasma cannon since the whole class is balanced around being slow but carrying big weapons that assist his team getting to where they need to be. The meltagun should be better, but it should be inferior to the multimelta in every way.
