Morally Grey/maybe Good Chaos Chapters

Discussion in 'Chaos Space Marines' started by CrazyZilox, Sep 21, 2014.

  1. I would also like to state morality aside, the Rebel Alliance comparison has to do with resources. Economically, the Imperium is the Galactic Empire with its colossal war assets, and chaos makes do with; what they had from 10,000 years ago, looted/salvaged equipment, warp voodoo, and whatever they can strip from a planet before the Imperials come to scourge all life from said planet for containment.

They cannot afford to arbitrarily waste resources, so they raid more than they conquer, and if in lore they kill competent minions for almost no reason, that just comes off as bad storytelling.
  2. all time, when chaos forces are eliminatin ork/tyranid/eldar/necron hordes it's good for survaving of humanity as kind.So what?

What was that, Abbadon? Let no good deed go unpunished?

Sure, I'll tell Nurgle after I gave an entire star system Space AIDS on steroids, and after I killed a few billion innocence so Khorne can have more skulls, and after I have turned the inhabitants of three Imperial worlds into warpdust for Slaanesh. And maybe, just maybe, Tzeentch will then make up his mind about what the hell he wants.

That thing about Tzeentch? Apply it to all the Chaos Gods, because none of them know what they want, and in fact, they CANNOT know what they want. They are the physical manifestation of human emotion constantly screwing itself over for eternity, they have no logical thought pattern, or at least not one we're capable of deciphering.

Still, portraying the Chaos Gods as being poor and just "misunderstood" is as silly as it gets. Yes, they are merely agents of change at the end of the day (not only Tzeentch), but not the good kind of change. More like "press your face into a buzzsaw and see what happens" change.

It's not really misunderstood, it's just they are about as evil as everyone else in the setting.

For example, Nurgles Space Aids? About five billion times better then living on an Imperial Hive World, Khorne using innocents for Skull Taking? Khornite Warhounds actively hunt down people who bring unworthy sacrifices too often, innocents chalk up to that tally. Slaanesh turning everyone to warpdust? To him humanity is too shackled to itself, a place where the talented are constantly oppressed and free thought is discouraged, often Slaaneshi are the only people with any actual form of freedom, part of the reason Imperials are so hard up on finding Slaaneshi cults is they often don't -do anything- and so can hide forever in the underbelly of imperial worlds unless directly threatened or taken under the wing of Chaos Lord , Tzeentch is as constantly mentioned, also the personification of hope...something sorely lacking in the Grimdarkness of 40k.

To their extreme, yes they are raw evil, but so is te Imperium. They have good people as well as bad, just as the Imperium has Hive Worlds but also has plenty of Agri Worlds where the worst thing that happens is rampant inbreeding. The setting wasn't ever meant to have good guys and bad guys, it was meant for -everyone- to be bad and with exceptions to exist to the rule.

That's looking at it from the human viewpoint though. To the Gods and those who are willing to go some significant changes (Read: Mutated as hell) it's completely different. Nurgle is loving and caring for his children. Slaanesh just wants to offer experiences.
  8. Khorne doesn't give a shit about those skulls, he's not impressed by easy kills, only tough prey really gains his favor.

And here's where you are wrong: Yes, living in the lower strata of a hive world sucks ass, and badly so. However, the Imperium is a big place, and for every Hive World, there's a Shrine World, or a Agri-world, or even a Garden world that has never even experienced war. All the GRIMMMMMMDARK we see on the Imperial site is intentionally taking from the worst possible places the Imperium has to offer because the fans get off to that, and reading the life story of Normalus Unexceptionalus who was born on an agri-world and died there 80 years later would be boring.
Meawhile, Chaos Worlds are always shitty. Even if you don't get a mutation that replaces your eyes with a pair of assholes, you still have to worry about getting eaten by demons, or killed by cultists or CSMs for shit and giggles. And all that Tzeentch = Hope and Khorne = Honorable warrior stuff has been retconned by GW long ago, precisely because the fandom jacks off to all the GRIMMMMMDARK.

The difference is that the Imperium is harsh and unforgiving because it has to, both because of its sheer size, and because it is constantly attacked on literally all fronts. It does, however, have the potential to be good. Meanwhile, Chaos is entropy, and nothing more than that. It's a self-destructive force that basically has to lose or else there will be no life left in the galaxy that could feet it with emotions.

Dude, I mentioned Agri-Worlds in the very post you just mentioned.

Furthermore, no it's not. Chaos Worlds can and do function fine like Q'sal, which runs on souls but that's about as Grimdark as humanity doing the exact same thing by stunting their evolution and dumping 1000 psykers to the Emperor every few months.

Also: Retconning in GW isn't a thing that actually exists, it's never existed, things merely jump in and out of getting screen time, and even then often are referenced at one point or another. As for Chaos having to lose? Yes, and it knows that, it's precisely why the Gods abandoned Horus, because he would of destroyed everything if he won. Chaos isn't that stupid, and it's not going to just ruin the galaxy and itself in the process.
