Those aren't new map pictures, those are pictures from pre-alpha when the game was on the Unity engine. I bet almost everyone could have run this game at 40+ FPS if it was still on Unity...
Yeah but then they have been introducing vastly OP weapons, wargear and mechanics etc as well as vastly UP ones in the game from the start and are still doing so currently so I don't hold too much stock in that particular part of what he is saying. There is no question that lack of balance is one the biggest issues EC has so Nathan shouldn't really be saying that without addressing the balance issues first. Skill is not the reason a great number of people are cancelling queues against certain factions.
I have been following the progression of this game from very early on, but never bought in until a few weeks before launch. To be honest what the developers wrote just didn't add up with even needing founders in the first place, which made me rather sceptical. Anyway, I like this game though it is rather simple at the moment. I like FPS arena shooters, having played tones of MWO and other similar games. But when he says "persistent world" I get a bit annoyed. For the game to have a "persistent world" the game experience needs to be different for the player if they were to remove the "persistent world". If they remove the 2d map of faction vs faction win rate, the game experience would be exactly the same for the player. No difference whatsoever. This means the game does not have a "persistent world".
And yet they use some screens from Miguel era? What a shit article... SERIOUSLY WHERE IS OUR PR?? @KatieFleming
I can see the Guild Wars 1 argument, but a lot of things would need to be added to get it there. GW1 was one of my favorite games of all time though.
He describes Persistent World like a developer. You have a character, their stats persist before, during, and after the match. You have an inventory that persists, and there is character progression. The problem is that most people see a continous world space as a persistent world not a character progression system. Hopefully with the world map we can see greater persistence on a global level.
Well name a game where the world is persistent. WoW got real persistance in the late LC only (when they introduced zoning) like 5 years in?
Pretty much. Persistence is persistence. If you retain information, it persists. It would be better that Nathan draw a clear distinction between a singular open world and a persistent campaign. Arguing semantics is only going to rile up people who feel cheated. I'm fine with the campaign as long as I can choose where to attack with more granularity (which maps) and the maps offer my faction some sort of benefit (rewards). What the game currently lacks is any sort of--dare I say it?--reason for players to persist in playing. Advancements aside, I could have a relatively similar experience playing a fresh character to one I've played for 100 hours. The maps are the same. The weapons are the same. The vehicles are the same. Retention is key.
I like this one so Far: MMORPG: Do you have any goals to push the player per match numbers higher? NR: Absolutely. Right now it isn’t really necessary, I’ve never liked the numbers game, having come from a game where you have 3000 vs 3000 players. Believe me, the numbers alone don’t make them “fun” in itself, it’s the final goals and achievements Yeah right, I would think its more because bE can't accomplish smooth Gameplay with higher Numbers. The current lag is already annoying...
