back on topic: give me a base to play with and against and i'll tell you what i think needs to be changed, or whether base upgrades are necessary.
Base upgrades always add flavor, imagine assaulting a daemonic fortress, taking hours to bring down its defenses, holding it and turning it into an Orky fort, and it remains a blight on the landscape for months, only to eventually be overcome and changed into the new factions style. The same structure has so much more potential if it fundamentally changes with each change of hand.
Generally agree with whats been said already. Base upgrades are something I'd like to see. I'd be happy with even non-visual upgrades. The act of having the system itself is what adds the depth. Not how shiny your walls suddenly become
How will it work with eldar captures? Eldar won't use imperial tech and vis versa. So... are there going to be no defensive weapons? In a 40k setting?! Or is it going to do some crap insta switch into a orky/eldar/s&m/monastery theme with appropriate weapons? Generic bases for all four factions is not just disappointing its also plain wrong.
Well the simplest solution would be that you've got to destroy the other faction's defenses, and then build your own. To avoid making it too much of a pain in the rear, enemy defenses could power down after you flip the base so that they're easy to mop up.
Perhaps the closer to each factions "home" sector or dropzone enemies get, the more faction specific the bases become. I think for Eldar, the simplest system for base upgrades is portable deployables, such as shields, Weapons platforms, etc.
i fully agree with the posts, i want to see upgradeable fortresses, outposts, faction main bases. This heavily impact the RP flow too.
I'll take the same position I have with elite/hero/hvy vehicles....I wont be interested in spending any of my own RP to puchase/play them, and I wont be interested in spending it on any base upgrades, why bother when your average game play will probably be less then 4 hours a day (more on weekends maybe) and many players will only be online for 1-2 hours at a time, thats plenty of time for the whole base to be lost overnight while your sleeping/at work/school and there goes your RP
