/v/ hate EC (but /v/ hate all games) /tg/ is ok about the game /nope about the monetization, Miguel have also done some Q&A on /tg/ and people have asked a lot of things with a lot of interest.
They mostly asked him to shave his mohawk and whether Katie got her job through his bed. I suppose that counts for a lot of interest but really that Q&A was a mess, especially seeing as Miguel does not yet know the principle of not biting the bait.
I've yet to see anything that qualifies as P2W yet. it doesn't help that that term has been so tortured to fit so many different agendas that the "spectre" of pay to win is raised every time any game makes anyone pay for anything that isn't a box copy of the game. The only thing that gives me pause (and then only a little) so far is the bike/vyper example but I can kinda see where they are going with that. Until we start seeing numbers and game effects there is not only no evidence to worry about the boogeyman P2W rearing it's head, there isnt't any basis for the claim. For now, for better or worse, we only have Behavior's word on their intentions. By all means voice your concerns but the arguments moot until we have more evidence upon which to form evidence based opinions. I might be old fashioned but I do like to know for sure there is something sinister afoot BEFORE i grab my torch and pitchfork.
Reading this thread I think I'm having a deja vu. Funny thing is in the previous thread there were more supporters of 'side grades' rather than opponents (however the poll said something opposite). Now it looks different...curious of the Behaviour reaction to this.
That's because the only people still arguing are the people who still feel crabby and annoyed about the current situation. That's us. I mean, feel free to go grab Laanshor and Galen and all those guys if you want, but I mean, they won. This stuff is already in the game. Us "whiners" can only sit and watch the flames.
I was totally against any type of 'side grades' in Ec in the beginning, I even asked very straight fowardly Miguel about it on his profile a long time ago but i noticed it's no use so I grew numb...just like many others.
I think you are making some pretty large assumptions here. Your first example is true of any mechanic paid or otherwise and the only way to deal with it is to watch and report it when they come up, this far I've seen no evidence of that paying will provide any advantage maybe just some variety. your second example assumes the very worst and at this point is salacious at best, there is no reason to assume that will happen based on anything I've seen. I'm not 100% kosher on side grades as I've said, but i'm not about to give in to the chicken littling and advocate to throw the whole concept out. For my part I with you on not having to pay to compete, but that's not what is being discussed. What i see as the issue here (if it works correctly) is being able to pay for slight variations in effect but not power level and I'm in principle, all for more variety. I'm sorry I can't see a black and white issue here yet, no matter how much gloom and doom is slung. let's see numbers, let's see game effects, and lets be sure to let Behavior know our concerns. but starting the mob, or joining it, just isn't helpful in my book. I for one would like to see what they come up with first before i condemn the whole endeavour. people who are concerned aren't wrong for being concerned but i just can't get behind moving against it based only on fears of what other companies have done, and I'm more than willing to pick a side firmly once i have enough information to do so.
We are going to have to agree to disagree on this one. Variety CAN be an advantage if an advantage is there to be had. But even then it's only worth noting if it is enough of an advantage to make any kind of marked difference. As i said I don't think there is anything to be worried about at this moment, that could change but as it stands i think the concept should be explored. It's pre-alpha for heavens sakes there is no reason why if it doesn't work RTP can be refunded, the items can be ret-conned into pure skins and prices adjusted. I wanna see what happens, and I'm sorry if my lack of concern in this very early stage bothers you.
I bought them. And I bought them for no other reason than they looked cool.but primarily I bought them because it supports the game development and people who buy into this looking for an advantage deserve to be disappointed when one fails to appear. Assuming that an advantage is going to appear and railing against a potentially interesting system just doesn't seem necessary to me.
