Meta-40k RP OOC and Characters

  1. PREMISE

The players are real-life freinds who regularly meet at the local game store to play Warhammer 40,000 Tabletop. Sometimes they would branch out to try some 40k RPGs, but Tabletop was truly their jam.

Somehow, during their latest game, a free-for-all using each of their favorite factions, they find themselves in an almost picture-perfect rendition of said game, but it looks real. It wouldn't be too long until they find out that it is real, and they are now stuck in the universe of Warhammer 40k.

How did they get here? How do they get out? Before any of that is answered, they must first find each other and escape.

    MECHANICS

Forms - One of the strangest powers that the players have is the ability to change between different forms that can be found in the 40k universe. There are odd restrictions imposed on this, however, as if someone didn't want things to be too easy...
[At the beginning of each mission/segment, the players will choose 1 "combat" form and one "Civilian/Unassuming" form. These forms will have to be chosen from what could be found in a given faction/subfaction (Such as Imperium has Space Marines, Adeptus Mechanicus, ETC). If the plot necessitates that you change factions mid-mission, you will be able to choose two forms in that faction, while losing your first two forms]

The sight - One of the dangers in a situation such as this is losing track of who are your freinds. As such, some sort of higher power has granted the players the ability to see the other's real life bodies under a transparent form of their current Form.

    COMBAT

During all direct combat scenarios and actions against the enemy will have overall structure from me but the details will be up to the players (i.e. I'll write something like "you can kill three guys, or two and strike at the mini boss" or the such, and allow the player to improvise how he kills them). If players would like to take some sort of direct action not offered, simply run it by me in I'll give you the possible results of that action.

Mooks (Untitled enemies) Are able to be killed to the number given. Titled enemies, {Elites ; Minibosses ; Bosses ; Megabosses} Are all enemies that you must post strikes for, rather than outright killing them. Your characters can also take wounds. Wounds will work with light, medium and heavy.

Light wounds are superficial, they won't affect a character's ability, but the player must acknowledge that they occur during the post. Players may also have the liberty of doing this on their own, though during some situations I will require this to happen to characters. Medium wounds will affect the combat capability of a character, either through a disability that prevents using certain equipment or just a decrease in effectiveness. Heavy wounds completely incapacitates the character; he becomes vulnerable to an execution move by an enemy if not aided by a comrade.

    • LIGHT- Doesn't really affect you. From minor paint scratches to shallow cuts and bullet grazes, stuff like that make a Light wound. You can take these in your combat post if you wish. May or may not make later wounds easier to take/more severe. When I give them to you, you must emote (write them out) them in your post, and they must fit the situation that gave you the wound
    • MEDIUM- Affects your combat capabilities in some way. There are 3 terms I sometimes use. Given during my posts, and must be emoted in the same way as Lights.

    1. Light-Medium means that it isn't really bad. Perhaps crushed chest armor (makes chest more vulnerable)
    2. Medium is the base. From crushed armor to a severed limb, most anything goes. Middle of the road may be a cut leg muscle that makes you slower to move.
    3. Medium-Heavy Are bad. Severed limbs are the topmost example.

    • HEAVY- Wounds that severely damage your character to the point that it hurts too much to move, or is just completely impossible. These are allocated and emoted by me, so you needn't worry about having to be fair with these. Executions can happen if you aren't rescued (either by all enemies around you getting killed or wrapped up in combat, someone dragging you to safety, or someone shielding you with their body.

Gambits are high-risk, high-reward maneuvers that can turn the tide of battle if successful, or seriously hinder you is they don't work.

    DISCLAIMERS

I am not the most knowledgeable when it comes to lore, so if I make a mistake that is too big to ignore, please tell me and I will do my best to fix it. At the same time, I will need work to learn how to reasonably play the personality of the various factions. So basically, patience is a virtue.

What would happen if one Picks Titan or knight as there favorite faction and or unit?
I mean knights and titans are a subfaction and are Giants.

  3. @Vulpas

Those questions are somewhat for characterization. So you are welcome to do so, but you will not be able to have a titan or Knight form (or anything like them. We will be sticking with humanoid forms, with being able to jump into vehicles and such)
  4. I take it you can't choose from redacted sources or those supported by Forge World supplements? Such as Solar Auxillia/Adeptus Arbites

I am going to say that such sources are fine, although I would appreciate a reference link so I can read up on lore and such.

  7. Name: Justicar Ordwin von-Jaeger Rahl - Ordwin Esquire Rahl is my real name
    Gender: Male
    Age: 51
IRL Appearance: One blue and one green eye (left and right respectively), auburn hair but changes to blonde and red the more solar radiation it is exposed to (literally, this happens to me every summer I get red and blonde hair), burn mark from an IED impact across the neckline crossing towards the lower lobe of the left ear, easily recognizable by the Marine Corps First Recon tattoo on right upper arm.

Favorite Units: Auxilia Veletaris Storm Sections - Blood Pact Grenadier Formations - Battlefleet Scarrus Naval Security Forces
Favorite Weapons: Volkite Weaponry - Shock Mauls - Vampiric Blades - Psi Reactive Blades
Personality: From experience in the military and as a forward observer for artillery and logistics officer, is slightly arrogant and prone to speak their mind blatantly when the situation warrants it but other than that tends to keep to their self. Effective, orderly, and able to read a combat situation before most people are even aware they're in one. Not afraid to get into close quarters combat but prefers to work with support weaponry and ordnance.
History: Served in the USMC for almost two decades and retired as a Major from the First Recon. Served four tours in Iraq and two in Afghanistan, medically discharged after the Humvee I was in got hit in an ambush and took a severe shrapnel wound to the chest which also when recovering turned out to be the saving grace in that it got rid of cancer I didn't know I had. Most of my family has served either in the Marines or Air Force. Loves history, particularly European 19th-21st Century and avid strategy game enthusiast. Avoids real life picture exchanges and prefers not to be tagged IRL...if you know me on Facebook and tag me, I will kill you...painfully.
