Very true. For the record, EVE Online, being one of the first sandbox MMOs only cost $4 million US to develop, the developers themselves started off with less than $3 million budget. But of course this was in 2003. Any sandbox game with a budget of $10 to $50 million US (depending on the game and if there is associated merchandise like T-shirts, books and coffee mugs or collector's tins) is enough to get the game out the door and in an enjoyable playable state. With that said it's a pretty tight budget, there is no room for outlandish marketing campaigns. But really we don't need that in today's social media society.
ARGHHH I was too late, I missed it. Thats ok. Im looking forward to it anyway. Terminator of the Red Corsairs oh hells yes!
EVE was an indie MMO and was launched with 20 guys developing it. It's been around for 10 years now and is one of the biggest MMO's in the west and has grown to over 600 employees so obviously indie games do work if they can capture an audience and keep them [edit] I see EVE was already mentioned
Thank you very much, David. This information is amazing. I'm glad to hear that the vision you and your team have for the game is the game we all want of the IP.
ATTENTION GAME DESIGNERS: this is how gaming is done, see how awesome they are at making everyone want to know more about the game, that is how you sell a game. Someone buy this director lunch for typing out all that! so sad, this person is multitasking, building a huge game, and writing forum posts, this person must have a good lunch to do all this!!! Too many game companies just say nothing, thinking it makes us want it more, it doesnt do that, we ignore it, we dont care about it, this is most interesting, love reading all the newsletters when one is in my email it makes my entire day, xD specially that ork one, that was most fun!
I just want to say this: I fucking love the community here. I also love the Nail It Scale It philosophy used by the team making the game.
Holy smokes..Anyone keeping a list of what the Devs are saying "Not planned for launch" I am. and at this rate it doesnt look like well get much in the way of content or gameplay =/ Just doing a search on "luanch" getting some worrying results. List for whats not gonna be ingame getting a bit too big.
