So maybe it would be a good idea to get rid of MM totally and make a regular melta as capable as it should be? Naaah, I know it's impossible.
The MM may be particularly hard for melee, but this is hyperbole at best. It's fairly common for me to get taken down by all three of the Chaos melee classes.
If a sorceror is taking you down as a MM, you might want to...change something, I can't even imagine that situation unless he was standing behind you the entire time.
Very true, I should have been more specific, when I said damage boost. The ailment/ damage stacking could use a bit of a boost in regards to how quickly it scales up, especially if they don't increase the range of the weapon. But if the range is increased then damage that is stacked probably could remain the same. I have to take my meltagun out again to see if the damage it stacks is slower than the MM. Speaking off the cuff and not infront of my gaming tower, I want to say it is slower. I turn to Cyrillus though, as he really knows the Melta weapons better then I do.
Contrary to popular belief, MM doesn't magically insta-kill everything that gets within its range. Stuff happens, people close to melee range. To name just a few examples, sometimes the enemy is in a group, sometimes they surprise me, and sometimes I've been going for another target and the gun doesn't allow me to react and kill them fast enough. And while the AS may be sub par in melee, it does have the potential to take down another class that sucks at melee. (I should note that not every single person who gets to melee range with me kills me, as people also seem to be assuming)
For those who played Space Marine, did anyone else like how that meltagun was set up? The whole close quarter shotgun feel which basically one shotted you if you were right next to them? I kinda liked it as it made the melta feel different from the plasma and other guns in the game. I don't think this shotgun style meltagun would be applicable to the MM though, I think the MM would have to stay as a "beam" style weapon. I am just curious and I am throwing that out there.
Now you're just being antagonistic. The point is that the MM doesn't completely shut down melee. A sorc may not be able to make a frontal charge attack, but they might struggle doing that against a bolter too. But they, and the other melee classes, have more options than just sneaking up from behind. Charging a class that excels at putting out damage close range is folly, and always will be. But even so, to say that it makes melee nonviable is absolutely ludicrous.
I'm not sure why you're calling the AS a melee class when it's supposed to be support. Is tactical a melee because it has a knife? Also, it actually does exactly that, shutting down melee. At least against CSM, since SBs can just push up through it.
