(Not sure if this is the right board for this, so sorry if it is) Will EQ use the proper lore based melta gun? Or just do a Space marine and make up a whole new way of doing it? I would understand if they didn't, as melting a tank would be pretty taxing on any engine, because liquids and big ass polygons and all that, but I hope to see them at least portrayed properly as short range AT.
I'll throw in a related question while I'm at it. Melts guns in dow series were portrayed both with blue and orange beams (i think). I would much prefer blue to be a plasma thing and melta to be either orange or just a shimmer in the air going forward. Thoughts?
Most likely it'll be Bioshock Infinite "BIG FAT HEATER SHOTGUN" melta type... Devs will unlikely handle anyone "instagib armour-penetrating weapon"
Meltas would be difficult to balance gameplay-wise. Though I am constantly frustrated by game designers down-grading the lore to be more balanced for their games, I believe Warpman may be right. Even with a hefty reload time, a lore-based meltagun would practically be a guaranteed one-shot, which would be very not-fun to play against.
Personally, I'd rather face a melta gun as it is in the lore, and be able to combat it with something as equally powerful in the lore, than have everything get dumbed down for the sake of "balance" purposes.
