I have a feeling this is going to be the case. I have seen many who have already said in all caps, "MELTA MAKES MELEE USELESS POINTLESS MEANINGLESS MEANINGLESS MEANINGLESS!!!!!!!!!!!" and I couldn't help but feel that this is almost a carbon copy of our previous fears with the Stormbolter. In the past, many worried and even predicted that the Stormbolter would make any melee in the game pointless, and that almost everyone would use a Stormbolter for the range and its use in close-ranged combat. As we have seen, this has proven to not be the case, at least, I don't recall many threads within the last few months that complained about Stormbolters replacing melee. Not here on the forums. So what's all the fuss about? Yeah the Stormbolter had a nerf with some reduced damage and no headshot bonus, but otherwise it wasn't really nerfed THAT much. I think that when someone calls something OP, they usually go off of their experiences going up against the weapon one on one. With the Melta Gun's after effects, you're most likely going to die a direct encounter, if you don't take the Tactical/Traitor down with you. That doesn't make the weapon itself OP. It just means you need to approach it differently. Just as you don't run directly at a Devastator in an open field, you don't run directly at a Melta in plain sight. You make as much ground as you can unseen before charging, giving you the advantage. I just thought that maybe people are overreacting a bit with this Melta business, as most new stuff gets this treatment.
I don't get how it happens. Patch is released with a new weapon or a weapon updates. Things change since that's what patches do. People lose their shit and act like they absolutely have to write their novel of a post for the devs explaining why the new weapon is horribly OP. It would be ok if there weren't a lot of them. The meltagun with get fixed. Report bugs when they happen. Add comments to one of the threads that's already been made. Chances are, what you're about to say has been mentioned.
