Im just point out the fact that melee is very broken, one hit practically perma-stuns you, and it feel quite clunky as of the moment and very sluggish not as brutal and efficient as csm and sm would really be with melee weapons just a thought.
They're implementing a melee overhaul soon. It was supposed to come out yesterday but the patch was all messed up and they retracted it.
I believe the new system has been described as "rock paper scissors" There will be a fast attack that is faster than the strong attack. The strong attack can break through the block attack. The block attack can stop a fast attack and respond.
I'll tell you now that it was much better, at least during the time it was playable, so I'd recommend trying out the next patch then bringing up issues with it, which there are/will be probably. Rest assured, improvement are happening.
Accrounding of the live stream today,the melee improved a lot.And now you can fight more tactically,now you can melee just after you dodged and performance counter attack
remember that what you see in the demo twitch is a build not currently active .... the new mellee will be in the next patch (in 3-4 days)

I dunno how much SM you played... but it sure isn't enough. SM's system was basic, but at least it works, unlike EC's which is just a mess.
