Much like selling out and giving the Wolf Priest the Bolter since we cant apparently speed back up Mace attack animation speeds to where they were last year when the Axe and Mace were effective. And just FYI the Mace and Axe were NEVER as fast as swords, they were just faster than what we have now. The strong and fast attack speeds we have for maces and axes right now make these weapons totally obsolete.
I wouldn't mind if they outright removed dbash, just to kill off stuns - shit's broke AF in a game with oneshots and people run and gunning. Optimally, they'll go the Savage RPS route - dbash gets changed into something that simply does damage and beats light attacks, but doesn't stun. PS. Wall clangs are also retarded in a game with lock-on and zero swing control (ie. no vertical attacks).
Relic's SM. That's all. Melee worked on every level absolutely beautifully and easily competed (devestators needed some work imo) at every level, knife, or perked OHKO Thunderhammer. Honestly all we need in terms of influence and inspiration. Keep the RPS system. Alter Dbash to be faster and more of a reposite of FA. Take the stuns out (even SM had stunlock but it wasn't as bad), and those that can't be (stun for power attack to dbash) shorten them to as little as possible, have durability damage transfer to users once their weapon is broken and eventually improve the sprint attack for everyone to be more on par of slamming into someone. The speed of some weapons should definitely be looked at and normalized. Not even SM put the Axe in a good place - it was stuck inbetween slow, and not enough damage. Done deal. No need to argue about it.
If only they could copy the system of that game, but it seems like they've tried to steer away from Space Marine's combat systems pretty heavily. I mean, I know it was from a different developer, but what's up with that? That game's mechanics were things that many of the early players were already highly familiar with and they were quite solid. Are you not allowed to borrow concepts from other games, or is it just frowned upon?
melee in this game has always had the depth of a puddle of spit and they are going to remove parts of it to make it more robust? what a fucking joke. Dont even got there. just dont.
Oh we're going there. This is a melee thread, every game with good melee systems in it (especially anything 40k-themed) is gonna get brought up for comparison to what we have now and how it can be improved. So, brace yourself!
I don't really think SM had that good of a system though. It was just spammy swinging wildly until someone died, at least from what I recall. It was basically just Dynasty Warriors...but with 40k and way less flashy animations heh. MASH THAT BUTTON BABY!
The sprinting shoulder bash was the only redeeming quality of SM melee PVP. Momentum and charging an opponent could be properly rewarded and the stun wasn't so long as to be an "I win" effect. Everything else in SM PVP melee was cheesy button mashing and abusing the hell out of of "rollin rollin rollin".
Mostly because Fists arn't scary if you've got someone (Or you do it yourself) just tie them up in melee while someone else shoots them. Your probably going to get downed, but martyrdom is preferable to let them rmb their way through everyone. It's become hardwired now. I see someone fighting a fist, i shoot them. If i see a fist unengaged, i charge him shooting and let someone else kill him while i keep him busy.
