Why attempt to run up to someone (which usually results in getting cut down) to have to hack them down (pray they don't win with paper rock scissors melee game and dbash you) when you can just use a bolter with a massive clip....to cut people down. The risk / reward of melee is brutal now and here is the problem. If a ranged guy spots your melee dude at range....you are dead. Simple. No dodging and pistol panic fire will save you. If you some how close the gap, and engage in melee....you have a much higher chance, however if they guess right and dbash you ...they roll back and shoot you dead. If you heavy attach and they spam knife....you lose...and take damage. Then its a game of chance. Not really same odds as them spotting you at a distance is it... Get spotted out of melee range....ur dead. Get in melee range.....you MIGHT win, if it pans out. On top of all this....all guns do MORE DAMAGE....when closer to the target! Ever dodge towards someone shooting at you? At the end of the animation you are helpless and get shot. Ever have some you are meleeing dodge? Your melee attacks goes RIGHT THROUGH THEIR BODY...and does nothing. Shouldnt dodging require you to ACTUALLY DODGE OUT OF THE RANGE OF THE WEAPON...NOT THROUGH IT?!?! If not...please rename "dodge" to "immune to damage" This game is far too weighted towards range. With a bolter clip, even a scrub that misses you with half the clip...will still get you after you roll dodge out of stamina. 1 swing of a melee weapon which requires much more work to get in close does around 100, and requires a longer animation, which MIGHT STILL GET BLOCKED....then someone holding a button and firing off a tiny burst. and now....better yet....LSM get tactical armour debuffs that can be deployed....insuring melee suckers die even quicker. Melee is dieing in this game. Support classes are sewer shit and die ultra fast...flying units are made of glass.....like just remove melee already Behavior.,,,,its clear you want it out at this point.
Dodging does give you Iframes. Also, regarding your complaints about RPS. Welcome to a rock-paper-scissors game, where its 50% guesswork and 50% luck. That's just how RPS works. Is this fair? Maybe not, but complaining that they beat you in RPS will not get you anywhere.
My point being....there is zero serviceability at range when I get spotted....and I get that. So why does Mr Range, a chance up close in melee....?? I understand some sort of defense is valid...but not to the extreme is currently is. 1 dbash....and ur dead.
On the bright side you can emancipate ranged players from their own inferior loadouts. As it sits if you beat a ranged player with a ground assault you were superior, if they beat you they get shamed for taking the easy way out. Its a pain in the butt right now but for melee its a win win, you feel superior and you get street cred and the ranged player gets the rock of shame
tbh: if you get spotted at a certain range, you should get killed by a ranged character... use your brain regarding melee... don't spam attacks... flank... try to remember your opponent and their defense patterns.... stick to your teammates... kill supports... cause havoc in your enemy's lines...
The devs have stated multiple times that melee combat is half the game, so it'll get better eventually. Melee needs to be winning 1v1s in close range 90+% of the time, otherwise it just pays to play exactly the same as right now but just shoot them instead, which is completely retarded. Also iframes need to be 100% clear with a visual effect, or removed from the game entirely. They're a cancer indistinguishable from lag or poor hitboxes.
The biggest issue is how before if you got DBashed and hosed, you had around a 10-20% chance of surviving the stun. Now you're killed virtually as soon as you get stunned thanks to the 'rebalance' that crippled the game.
After playing for 6 hours today and experiencing the patch some more I think that it is good that range is getting the buff, but at the same time melee has a bit build wise also. Not counting lock on in cqb with a GA I am always watching the other player and waiting their counter, sure it's luck sometimes but watching them helps a lot along with fast timing. Dbash has always been weird but it's not super hard to dodge just watch them
