Melee EXTREMELY over the top

I can agree with you on the "Class lock", it's detrimental to gameplay overall. (What happens in fortress defense when you only have Tacticals left to deploy, and your enemy is still dropping Plasma Gobs on you?) I also agree that changes to friendly fire only enable people to just wildy spam attacks without concern.

My point, however, is that EVERYONE has a different idea of what they want from this game, including the people making it. Whether you agree with (or are developing) the current Melee system or not, it is detrimental to reviews the game is receiving. The MAJORITY of people that have played this game have negative impressions of the game, for many different reasons. The most common one (at least since Early Access), however, is Melee.

Personally, I think Melee is FAR too easy (not to mention Jump Jets and lunge), and melee lock-on is the root of that evil. People are going to defend it. It's expected, they don't want a change to what they have become acclimated to. But if it doesn't, those people will be the only ones left. I can say my patience is wearing thin. Very thin. There is no more "Wait until the next patch" energy left in me. And I doubt I'm alone.

  2. There are plenty of A+ games which only grant a certain number of spawns for certain classes throughout a match. Whether once they are used they are gone or if there is a timer for them again. Better games than this will ever be, so whether you object to it, doesn't make it a bad idea to help balance how players play the game. The idea that a player gets to be whatever he wants whenever is juvenile at best.

If you could decrease spawns of certain classes in favour of others, boosting your preferred class, that would be a middle ground, but in the end and at the end of a match you'll be seeing tacs against tacs. Maybe a surprise by someone who saved something for the final hoora!

It also promotes a more tactical response to what your opponent is using. Back and forth. Right now it's random chaos with bad game mechanics.

What we enjoy and what is good for the game are different.

Imagine if MWO had lock out and no aiming for mechs? Terrible. If you are melee, lunging all over the place, you better be good at it if there is no autolock. Take it out. See the true melee threats persist and be a danger, whilst those who had training wheels too long rage and go back to range. All works out in the end.

Lunge actually got removed a couple patches ago. I didn't like melee last patch and I know I wasn't alone in that sentiment so I did my best to communicate that, and that seems to have been considered this patch. Brent said he wanted to do another big change on it so I'm anxious to see what he has in mind.

And in tribes you were free to pick what you wanted, I liked that game. Same with planetside since I liked to run around giving ammo and health on the frontlines. The second we implement class restriction because too many people like a class is the day I give up the rest of my hope for this game.

  7. I think he was specifically referring to the "swoop" that the JPA do instead of the slam at certain heights. The lunge/sprint attack was "removed" (read: a bit harder to perform), but the JPA swoop was kept for obvious reasons. It's very strong with the current iteration of melee.

The lunge refers to using melee attack while sprinting (at least that's what I gathered they were referring to). Your video is more a comparison of attack distance for Eldar vs SM.

It was in the video description, patch 17. I did dirty things on tactical back then with a stalker bolter but also with melee. Fun times since executes felt good back then, loved seeing them even at my own expense.
