Melee EXTREMELY over the top

Because there's no silver bullet? There's no magical button that you push that will win you a combat (unless you're using RMB against someone who doesn't know how to defend him/herself).

You need to know when and where to roll, when to shoot and when to strike, how to read your opponent to know which strike you should do when, when to throw grenades and how to shoot them in the air, when it's better to fight and when it's better to run and how to run. It also matters based on what you're armed with and what your opponent is armed with.

I miss "das boot" from Space Marine the game. Rip hilarious mechanic for Devastators.

In other news: I didn't see "melee fixed" on today's patch. Still can't bring myself to log in.

I find it hard to believe that so many people in this post miss the point entirely and fall back on the "git gud" (more or less).

    Lets recap:
-Durability breaking on D-bash is "git gud"??? um.... okay... sure. I thought I just outplayed the spammer, silly me, guess I should be punished for parrying his ass.

-Just roll away! --> You can't. There's this dumb mechanic that removes all skill called lock-on and you lunge with every attack. You can't roll away or roll past someone because they just auto turn with lock-on and follow you. Also dumb.

-But you got that D-bash off now you can shoot him! ---> Wrong. D-bash is impossible to get off on a JPA class because they can just fly away. As well it seems that there is a lesser stun animation on the melee focused classes (or just when they get stunned by a smaller tier weapon like a knife). Meaning that you don't actually get time to even squeeze the trigger before they are back at it. Its even worse on Devastator type classes who have to wind up their gun for some reason even to hip fire...

-You can just shoot the melee from ranged! --> Nope. Most maps are fighting around the Cap Point. There's all this open area and side areas that never get used because why would you? All the Cap Points are in tight quarters for some ridiculous reason with no good line of sight. Melee just run in and wreck everything. They can also close the distance stupid fast with their lunge attacks which is retarded.

TLDR: Its not about getting gud, its about the devs actually changing a horrible, half-assed system to something that is actually bearable. I've put up with it all during alpha and it had one patch where it was "alright-ish". But now its just over the top melee spam everywhere. To the new player the melee system makes no sense and is not intuitive what-so-ever. To the pro player there is no skill ceiling. Its a joke to play and feels bad and cheesy. It completely undermines the ranged gameplay that is SUPPOSED to be there.

    Fix plz.

So you actually don't know how to beat it.

Any melee weapon that's a higher tier then what the RMB spammer is wielding will. Trusty Broom also gave several ways to counter it but I'm assuming your the "win button" type. :p

You know 70% of problems with melee could be fixed if we just got rid of the auto lock. The other 30% could be fixed if we just took Space Marine's melee. So many swings before a brief animation reset.

Why is this is such a big thing? Why is this so hard? People can't seriously be in favour of lock on, right? Space Marine did plenty without it.

  6. So much please yes. Remove melee lock on. Its really fracking annoying when a Raptor or a stormboy spins around you 1.5 times making them impossible to track and bs jump slams instantly right out of 0.0000001 second Dbash stun.

I lost a clang to a Rite of Fire, with a Powerfist. I play little of loyalists, save stalker bolter sniping but- arn't the Fist/Klaw supposed to be the one weapon to rule the clang spam? I get that it's supposed to be a Crozius - and from my understanding a mace that applies burning (Or is that another one?) But- how does it trump powerfist?

With 40k being predominantly melee based you know everything and their mom has a blade of sorts, I do agree that they need some more open maps that play to a ranged advantage. Although they have kinda fixed the melee now "being which as a tac I can kill ground marines not nessissairly jpa" there needs to be more maps that favor the range play

This is where Git Good applies. Took me a long ass time to be able to predict peoples movement to be able to d bash where they are going to land, then it turned into a drill cus everyone does the same shit. Not too hard to stop RMB spammers especially now that they buffed tac D bash. Ranged is easier to survive melee now not always live though. Still ranged IMO is viable now. If the added different ammo types I think ranged would be on par with melee.
