Melee delivery system

Melee should be quick death--you are getting wonked on the head with a huge power maul. That should kill. The problem is not necessarily the melee, its the delivery system. If you get close enough to a player, melee should kill him fast. The problem is that melee players, especially shield bros, can transverse the battlefield with impunity. The plasma shreds MoNs. When you run across SM plasma, which there is a ton of it now, you as a MoN player say, "man, I was stupid for trying to charge them from that distance". Which is proper, and really what you should be saying when charging a boltgun. In tight indoor places like Pegasus, melee should be king, but once you step out on those spans between buildings, you better be shielded in a pack. That is how I see it. Slow down the shield bro to be like a devastator. Reduce the toughness of the MoN to be slightly higher than a regular CSM and give him back his armor.

Melee TTK is short and fine unless you go against someone who actually can fight back.

I agree. The melee feels good. When you face a skilled opponent, it can last quite a while. That is all good.

The issue, as I see it, is that ranged players cannot stop of the melee person from getting to them. It appears that ranged players accept the fact that normally a melee player will win, or has a better chance of winning. But it sucks for them if their weapon is almost useless for stopping that melee player from getting to them. Melee players like me get sloppy when charging. Patch 16 seemed devastating to me because when I first started playing it, the sloppy play I was doing with my MoN wouldn't work anymore. I got better. SM plasma is now the bane, I am getting better. But SMs should not have to rely on plasma to stop MoNs. The boltgun should be able to take down sloppy MoNs.

It does that already. Takes a little longer than a plasma gun, but it still downs them fairly quickly.

It all depends on positioning and awareness, if you notice melee class early enough, he is toase(unless shieldbro, they give no shit).

And this is how you can tell experienced ranged player form a noob ones.
Noob will try to shoot you no matter what, experienced one knows that knife, while inferior, isn't just an ornament and its not autoloss.

You're not supposed to stop melee from getting to you, unless you have heavy bolter pointed at their general direction.

Plasma is natural hardcounter to melee assaults of both sides, both MoN and shieldbro are supposed to counter bolters.

The game is all about synergies and counters, you need to know what counters what and adapt to the situation instead of sticking to single thing, regardless of developing situation.
  6. stop implying MoN needs another nerf, bolter weapons are well able to take them out, especially from a distance or if its a few people. If he gets close you should expect to have a hard time, thats how it should be. If anything he needs to be slightly tougher against plasma and melta.

shieldbros resistance is okayish, maybe plasma and melta need to do a little better against them. What he needs is a little less offensive potential to emphasize more on his defensive role. I said it before, being this tanky is fine. Being on par with mons offensive potential at the same time is not.

Plasma and melta are quite effective against shield, there is just currently a bug that sometimes negates the penalty for the "shield broken" state. Plasma gun chews through shield in 3-4 shots, charged plasma gun shot breaks shield, does ~100 damage to the shieldbro, and staggers him long enough to charge another shot (which will kill).
And, obviously, the plasma cannon oneshots a shieldbro same as anyone else.
Melta heat damage does little direct damage to shield, but the heat itself still accumulates, so it's not uncommon to see a shieldbro seem to advance through melta fire unscathed, only to die almost immediately from the DoT stacks when he lowers his shield to charge or attack.

Also, the shieldbro does, in fact, have less offensive potential. No pistol, which makes it harder to counter jump assaults and punish circle strafers. Furthermore, he cannot cap points (which I would categorize as offensive utility, in the sense that each scoring unit is an asset to the team attacking a point)

The boltgun already kills in under half its' magazine, do you want it to instantly kill whatever you point at or something?

If you want a pistol go equip it already, the choice is there. We just went over this in

7 shots and the shield is not down and no damage to him at all.
In tight spaces the SB wrecks just as much as the MoN and I'd argue the capping isn't an offensive perk but thats opinions obviously.
