so whats the point of going with a Powerfist if a freaking knife can defensive block me? as far as im concerned when i hit a tactical with my powerfist and he blocks it with his dagger he should take 1/2 damage and then be stunned. or outright killed i don't know who or WHAT you guys were thinking but thats not right
Can we get the topic name changed from "Melee Combat Rules" to "Vague Assessment of How Melee Sometimes Works"?
On the recent addition of faster attack speeds for Charged attack for certain Ork weapons and all Eldar. The problem is we are introducing faster attack speeds without proper testing. As I said, we figured out what attack speeds worked with Rock, Paper, Scissors system the last 9 months of Alpha. You don't just decide to add faster charge attack speeds the week the game goes live without thorough testing without fucking up the viability of RPS and causing a severe imbalance. The faster(faster than all the speeds we tested in Alpha) speeds for these charged attacks are ignoring or breaking RPS. There too fast for servers with normal latency to reliably track, so many times you don't see them coming until AFTER they hit you. Because the charge attack is so fast, you don't have time to cognitively, physically, or mechanically react. And the nail in the coffin to the viability of charged rapt tacks being allowed to charge so fast is the fact that these super fast spstring attack charge speeds bypass/ignore fast attacks. The ONLY way we can have fair and balanced RPS system that works reliably is for all charged attack speeds for all factions being normalized from weapon to weapon. All swords fast attack and strong attack at same speed for all factions. All Axes the same, all clubs, maces, Crozius the same.
On the stream, I think @BrentEllison mentioned Witchblades going through Storm Shields that were up. Today against Eldar, I had a couple of instances where Striking Scorpions fast/heavy attacks were going through my shield as well. It would require further testing on my part. And I'd test it myself with another clan mate if we - in the Garrison - could fight each while testing different factions too. Food for thought.
It's not just Eldar Weapons. I hopped on a shieldbro for the first time in a while this past weekend and Chaos attacks that I'm used to blocking where seeming to pass right though the shield. I'm fairly certain there's been another (stealth)nerf to the hitbox for shields.
To be fair, the shield is just too strong in melee. It is a complete powerhouse that does not obey the RPS system. I can't speak for a hitbox nerf, but there needs to be some mechanic in place to prevent shield users from going full clamshell/clangbang in order to draw out fights. I had a scrap with a shield earlier tonight on Blackbolt. I fought against him and 3 of his buddies for the duration of the entire cap at C (and lost eventually). I was surprised I actually managed to kill his friends (poor play or luck most likely), but every time I'd get one hit on him or a d.bash, he would just put the shield up until his armor regenerated. Afterward, he'd clang again and again, life leech restoring any HP he lost. I only lost the stalemate because more of his teammates arrived, and to top it off, he wasn't even the one who killed me. It was a fight that lasted a good 60-70 seconds only to be ended because someone else stepped in, and that kind of fight is the worst you could have in my opinion. There really are no options against shields 1v1 in melee. You will lose to a turtling player.
