Melee, Choppin', Stompin, Crunking And Smashin' All Things Close Combat!

  1. Today Nostalgia has overtaken me and memories of wielding big honking weapons of brutal bro-fisting destruction have returned to my head from games of old. So to celebrate such awesome brutishness in the most orky way possible; let's talk melee and more specifically what sort of melee attacks we'd like to see orks perform. From executions all the way to brutish sweeping swings of choppas.

    Personally I'd like to see some really awesome swinging and heavy smashing of weapons. I'd love to personally see something akin to the classic spin giant weapon attack, that never gets old and is a load of fun. Wouldn't mind seeing attacks like those in Dark Souls for large weapons.
  2. Well, I suppose most melee attacks must be duplicated across the Factions, so even if they get different animations, our options seem limited. Where I believe each race will shine is in unlocking additional attacks/animations for different classes. I suspect Light Attacks (Quick swipes chained together into combi) and Heavy Attacks (Hold down the button to unleash a powerful attack to an enemy. Slow, preferable victim is someone who is stunned by other attacks) will be in the game, alongside other attacks like Stun (Very light concerning damage, but makes the enemy stagger if not countered).

    For instance: I play as a Nob and have gotten myself some skill using a Big Choppa. I then unlock the possibility to buy "Whirlwind", which is a different Heavy Attack that make the Nob twirl around himself for four seconds while being able to move around sort of like a top. I buy and equip it, and can now enjoy dealing death by spinning through tight clusters of enemies!

    Dane brings up a good point but well what sort of special attacks should the orks have ? Also the special move you said shouldn't be called whirlwind to generic but if we call spin ta win that my good ork fellow would be amazing. For powa klaw should have something that grabs your opponents weapon and tosses it aside and they have to run over and get it or use their combat knife but if they lose their knife...FISTICUFFS

  4. I don't know about you, but I really would hate that a powerful weapon like a Power Klaw would be able to do such a thing - That is Eldar shenigans, not Orky! We beat people at their best!

    Talking Power Klaw, I think powerful weapons like Power Fists and Klaws, among Thunder Hammers could have their Light Attacks be just as powerful as Heavy Attacks, being able to be chained together, but with the slow movement of a Heavy Attack. What should their Heavy be then? Well, Ground Pound is my first guess.

    Other attacks? Well, the good ol' Stikkbomb Club might be able to shake about the enemy's heads, if not blow them clean off!
  5. I would love big choppas to have a massive one handed burdenous swinging attack. But that's more a case of animations, hehe.

    Choppas of many different kinds would be epic, as in like 50 different forms of basic choppa without customization, simply because orks like to be varied don't they?

    I hope we don't have the same melee attacks I mean really Imagine a Warlock attacking the same/similar way as a Mega armored nob does! And a crazy khornate attacking a sluggish as you greenskins no way! Orks should probably have the hardest melee hit followed closely by terminators powerfists and the average ork boy when he charges and attacks be as strong as a normal space marine. What were your melee classes apart from Mega armored nob? Commando~ and mek~?+boys thats alright actually I look forward to spilling your fungi blood xenos!

You missed my point a bit - I am saying that the actual function (aka clicking the button to make your character attack) would be the same for all races and classes, to make programming easier to do. The animation might be different and the attacks may have different properties (Speed, reach, damage) based on the characteristics of the stats, but will, all in all, be the same.

    For instance, a Chaos Space Marine Bezerker would have high speed and damage in melee, while an Eldar Guardian would have lower damage and reach, while still possibly being quite fast, as it is an Eldar. If you, however, strip away those differences, they would functionally do exactly the same, just with a different set of animations based on the class and race, to make the look different.

    This way, the developers can easily make different characters who behave differently in combat without having to make a new system per class, while we, as players, can change up the playstyle of the classes by changing the stats through whatever system they make for that kind of progression.

    personally i would like to see more of the orky weapons used like stick bombs,tank hammers, and even wierder stuff like squigs on a chain or or a two handed club that lobs grenades during every swing.

    for animations there should be quick and fast executions like decapitation then kicking the falling head and slow theatrical stuff beating an opponent with a stick bomb till it explode and the ork just flies away while the opponent dies.

    but yeah I hope playing an ork will defiantly be exciting.

  9. In my suggestion thread, I too Felt it was imporant that Orks have a special...(bigness) to their melee. I mean its just gotta feel right, its like a racing game with bad driving. If it aint done right, you may as well scrap it all o_O
