Yeah that makes sense, thanks for the explanation, it sounds like really exciting technology and I have a bit more faith in the game now ;P

If you'd actually see 40k people at the same area, it'd probably be the party for the 40.ooond Member.:)

so there is a limit on how many people you can see on screen, this should be an option also to improve performance/stress test your system.. you said about actually seeing 1000 players in one place is unlikely but I think in the early days people will just try it to see what happens, anyone ever tried to enter Jita on EvE and your disallowed because there are 1000s of players all in there. and people will just try to make videos like on eve "biggest battles" video... if you intend to allow 1000 people in a game, you must allow it so that they can all be stood side by side with no issues or lag, because if something can happen it probably will.

That thing with 1000 players on a screen was simply because you don't see the whole battle, i.e. the are behind you. So basically, a battle could have some few thousands(if you've got the hardware) , but you will never see all of them.

"hay guys, just for fun, everyone on the server meet here and don't shoot, lets see how many ppl we can get in this one spot..." what if?

Well, technically they still won't see each other, at least not all of them, and with collision detecting being a thing, it miiiight get a little messy. But I see what you're trying to say, and if some recording features or flyers would get introduced this would probably become true.

Yep it does happen, im just thinking, test it with bots on a map, spawn 100 at a time and see about setting that as a in game setting "max visible units; Slider 100----|----500--------1000" - then the system specifications could be a little broader than one default setting (although im sure INI tweaks and things will come.. and mods? :)).

Youtube videos are what seem to spark off the bigger battles, once theres a "200person fight!!" - there will be a 500person next day. Until, like eve, the forums are crying out for patches to fix this lag, and drones waste too much cpu etc etc... needs testing with many, many bots , then players ofc. This could also helps test the server tech if you set up 1000 virtual machines each with a bot player connecting, have them fight, tweak... run it again... or is there some other way you will test this?

    cheers all,
  8. Max visible units? Don't think that'll work because what decide who to show? Closest 100? Even if you have a few hundred people around you, you may need to shoot down some heavy support located far away.

The best solution will be to test the system before launch. How many players will it handle in the same vicinity? Will it be a better overall decision to split into regional server, to decrease playerbase on one server? All these options have pros and cons. The evaluations and decisions rest with the dev team and we hope they make the best of it :)

Yes I agree with a lot of that, like "why couldn't I see that sniperargh!!!!" moments, but a setting shold be available, like if I can run this game on my PC showing more units, why shouldn't I be allowed? and same as if my pc struggles but I can find a way around, ok it may not make me the best player and I have a minor dis advantage, but.. im playing so im happy :) ... that's just me anyway.

    cheers for replys
  10. well i think that would not happen
if each battle have the limit of 1000 it would just display the same 1000 players to any of this 1000 players
so no1 can get shot by an invisible player

but at least i dont really know :D
