Mathematical Balance of Weapons (Tabletop versus EC)

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Docmo, Sep 26, 2016.

How do Eternal Crusade's weapon stats compare to Tabletop?

  1. Good! It's an accurate representation of the weapons and their capability on tabletop.

  2. Needs improvement! The weapons are not good representations for their stats on tabletop.

This game should not resemble tabletop in terms of game balance.

    Why? Because tabletop:

    A) is a poorly internally balanced game. Cross faction game balance is non existent, but balance even within codexes has been a pressure point for the player base for 3 editions now and has actually been ongoing for a significant length of time

    B) Is not even a remotely accurate reflection of its own fluff.

    C) GW's game designers are incapable of responding to feedback

This game is vastly more balanced than 7th edition.

    It's pretty much irrelevant.

On the tabletop, you get to move before you shoot. If the Dire Avenger is within 18 inches to be able to fire, the Tactical Marine can move 6 inches directly toward them and be in rapid fire range of 12 inches.
  3. For easier comparison the chances of the marine killing the eldar in TT are 55/250 or 22% while the eldar's to kill the marine are 46/250 or 18.4%.

Since the TT is such a broken system, I don't think there is any point in comparing the two. I am very glad the devs did not try to import the tabletop to the game, since it is so flawed. A D6 has terrible granularity, and the stats/equipment do a very poor job of matching the lore indeed! My main gripe about the TT, actually...

The TT combat being compared here has gone largely unchanged since 3rd edition, with the exception of the Bladestorm ability.

Bladestorm is indeed the difference. Which I think needs to be addressed before TEQ make it in game. Massed shuriken fire becomes disproportionately effective against resilient targets when compared to other troop weapons.

Maybe a stackable debuff, in the vein of how melta applies but applied to toughness. Almost worthless against MEQ but meaningful vs TEQ?

EC does NOT draw from TT in any way regarding stats.
It was said over and over and over again by devs.

The weapon USE, how they are applied and how they function is based upon lore, tt and GW guidance, but stats have nothing to do with TT.

Huh? Is Bladestorm even a thing in Eternal Crusade?

I'm not sure if it's in the DPS math, but shuriken catapult should to be reloaded more than a bolter in the same amount of time, and also reloads slower (so let's say in 15 secondos of fire, the shuriken reloads 3 times while a bolter does it 2 times).

Yep, I'm killed a lot when reloading XD

You have the lowest standards of anyone ive ever encountered and ive known a lot of teenage girls.

Decimals was enough to do it for you, a "fellow math nerd"? Decimals?

You remind me of that facebook group "i fucking love science" that posts shit like "IRON MAN SHOOTS LASERBEAMS! SCIENCE!" and then a lot of people thumbs up that post because they are also very passionate about science.

Watch this. 2/5. Wow! Fractions! The elegance! WOW!

    3/8
(holy shit, i need to change my pants now)
