I disagree. Leavers are a bigger problem. Many undermanned Matchmaking starts often fill up within minutes but, if people are leaving just because the Match isn't full at the start they make matters worse.

Most supremacy matches are very forgiving if you don't start at 100%. I've literally comeback to win supremacy games from a cap made at the last second before the time ran out. Fortress maps can have a similar outcome. As there is usually more time to fill the maps up. The point is that starting short isn't the end of the match but, people leaving the match because your starting short kicks the whole system in the gnads.

At one point in World of Warcraft they put a 1 hour cooldown on re-queue for Leavers. This keeps people from leaving games and instantly re-queue to try and get another match. People should be committed to play when they queue.

I still think Matchmaking could always use improvements.

@Rakshasa I don't think punishing leavers is going to do any good in this game's current iteration.

Fact is, leavers leave for multiple reasons. This game does not have a MMR or ELO system in place to ensure matches are fair, so a players only recourse against unfairness is leaving. You can't chose maps, conditions, timing, anything.

You could make a case that leavers ruin games if that was actually true. But it's the MM that's ruining games. To put into example, most games you cite have a clause that once someone leaves (And eats said punishment), all others are free to leave unpunished. In this case we are always operating on a "Someone already left"-like scenario, and further punishing players is just going to make matters worse.

Really, your suggestion is just going to make being a Low Pop faction player even worse. Resulting in, yes, longer queue times and bleeding players.

OK, I gotta edit my opinion a little here. First I still stand by punishing Leavers in the manner I already stated. I PvPed competitively in WoW and, have seen that system work. Sure there is some downsides but, the point is to make the Leavers have to weigh the options of finishing a game and getting to re-queue directly after or, leave and not be able to queue for a significant period of time. This keeps people from farming the Matchmaking system. I know people don't like loosing matches but, there isn't really a penalty for loosing other then hurt pride. You can still get kills and earn points even in a loosing match.

However almost instantly after my last post I had an experience that change my opinion of the Matchmaking system. We started a defense of Fort Harkness (I think) down 13 Eldar v 17 LSM. The battle was close but, the LSM had the upper hand and pushed us the whole time. During the battle I had hoped that more players would be added. However this was not the case. Within the last 2 mins the LSM finally defeated us. So it was still a close game during which I had the honor of being killed by Chapter Master Valrak himself. He was even streaming (I checked after). Anyway, the point is the system never added more players to even the numbers. According to the scoreboard each side only had 1 Leaver each. Maybe I should have Screenshotted this stuff. I don't know if Valrak logs his YT streams somewhere so I could got back and check.

That game was a good 20 mins long and, it seemed to me that in that whole time we could have picked up 1 or 2 players. However if the system isn't even trying to make fair matches that's a problem.

Honestly at this point i leave more matches than i finish. Most time it's not for inbalanced games though, it's how easily my veteran died (killed before killing anybody, killed by teammates while charging the enemy, RPS not working and rewarding my opponent, death by single dbash, etc.)

I just want to use my veteran class it took so long to unlock, I don't have time to waste as a normal class.

As of now, if I don't feel my veteran didn't have an impact on the match, I just leave in frustration.

Btw in ec when you quit a match you keep the requisition you earned within that match, but when you disconnect you lose it.
Literally the opposite of what should happen, and you guys wonder why there are many quitters..........

I understand where your coming from. I never start a match with an elite. Just too many variables and, Eldar just die too easy. I usually just save it for critical moments that I need an extra push. Which usually means I forget and almost never use it.

However I would like to say that you may be over reacting a bit. The game can be fun played with the "normal" builds. The extra options that the elites unlock for these builds can sometimes be helpful. So it's not like your totally missing out.

I have to admit that I do have to take periodic breaks from the game. Sometimes if I get frustrated from losing. Sometimes if I'm satisfied with winning (and don't want to ruin my winning vibe). However usually it's just because playing Eldar I get stress, fatigue and, hand pain. I almost never leave mid-match unless it's an emergency.

This is still the main cause of LSM steamrolling matches yet people seem to cry more about alts throwing games. Then again they do need those wins quite badly.

@Rakshasa I'll take ways to kill the game for 600, Alex.

Maybe its because I come from an earlier era of online gaming than others but I have no problems with "leavers" as you call them. All adding a penalty for this does it turn the game into a toxic hellhole ala WoW, Dota, LoL and Overwatch. If a person is going to leave its because either ping is terrible (had matches with players warping everywhere so I just bail) somethings come up (emergencies happen) or the one you're upset about the player is not enjoying themselves.

Adding a system to discourage them just leaving means they're going to take it out on their teammates either verbally or in game like they have in the previously mentioned titles. Hell, if you did that I wouldn't be above opening fire on my allies and taking the TK kick to circumvent it. Also I leave, many times right as soon as I join. I enter a game and see the majority of the enemy team is all composed of the same clan and my team is mostly pugs, I leave. I don't feel the need to stick around and play punching bag for a clanstomp.

Personally I don't have as much of a problem since I switched to a support role. As long as I do my job well I know that I will end up getting a good amount of points so whether we win or lose makes less of an impact to me than when I was a combat role. I mean, I can get into combat with melee (I refuse to use the bolter for my Apothecary) but its not as important as healing my team and running around behind the lines. Makes me feel like Eugene Roe, the medic from Band of Brothers. :-D

Problem isn't the matchmaking system itself, its the fact that we are playing a game that isn't going to tell who has higher skill levels. You can still level as a bad player just because of points so even if it kept similar rank characters together you still could end up with Mr. Rambo Marine running around just getting kills instead of guarding the points. He may be good at it but it wont help win. It seems like an problem that can't be fixed on their end.

I will leave this video as a song we can all sing when we are queuing for matches:
