The mandiblaster could work as a smart pistol with very short range and unlimited ammo that only does small chips of damage. When you lock-on a target, it starts auto-firing needles. It could work as a small damage boost to the scorpion. Imho it's important to have some control over it, so it doesn't disables stealth if you're charging a backstab.
Sad to know you have given up. If you actually come up with anything counter to my ideas I'd love to hear them. The default should be a melee-activated one with a cooldown or default and "smart" versions should exist. While initially against the idea of "smart" pistols because of the reduction in skill needed to deal at least some ranged damage, the speeds of the characters in EC, which is and/or should be greater than most other shooters, can make landing shots more difficult in close range, especially against Jump Pack users. The higher TTK of the game should allow ''smart'' pistols to be made viable without sweeping aside default pistols. The Mandiblaster could work better as a short range, unlimited ammo shot with a cooldown that is auto-activated by certain melee actions. Players should gain 50% Ranged Damage Resistance when they land a melee attack against an enemy. The Mandiblaster would ignore the RDR. If the Scorpion had a Lock on their enemy the RDR could be factored in. It should work as an addition to the Scorpion's melee combat, helping them take Down enemies more quickly than their Chainsword alone could. Stealth should not provide a damage bonus as all players should be able to deal bonus Back-Stab damage to each other and the Scorpion's Stealth should allow them to get behind their enemies more often.
@BrentEllison @NoahWard @Oveur @KatieFleming Anybody gonna answer this question? A tiny hint? Something that acknowledges that this somewhat important class feature has not even been mentioned in a live stream for months? I get that everybody is busy but it would nice to feel heard on this.
Such amazing debate skills. Learn those in middle school? It really would be nice to get some information on what is supposed to be an iconic and default piece of wargear for the Striking Scorpion.
Could the mandiblasters confer some sort of extra attack/damage on the sprint attacks? From what I remember of the lore don't they work on the charge? To me sprint attacks are the closest thing we have to a charge? Alternatively they could provide extra damage during a Dbash? For me it would be too complex to add them as a separate extra weapon. Pistol + Sword is enough to concentrate on.
It has had several interpretation in the Table top, +1 attack, a free hit in close combat and Hammer of Wrath type attack. The version that kept on coming back and is still cannon now is a shot from the helmet in Hand to Hand combat Range that shoots as soon as the Target is in range, Basically before the reflexes of the wearer kick in. It hits every round of combat at the Highest possible Initiative. So how this can be translated to EC. a Scorpion has the Chance to kill an assault Marine mid ground pound before he hits the ground near the near the Scorpion. The shot is that fast. Notice I use the words "Chance to kill". That's why some suggested it shoots when you lock on to a target and keeps shooting as you hold your lock. This could help prevent armour regen kicking in and as long as you stay on your target you deal damage. But ofc there are many other ways this could be done.
"That's why some suggested it shoots when you lock on to a target and keeps shooting as you hold your lock." This is good too. Like I said, I think it'd be ideal simply to increase your damage while you do your regular actions. I actually do know what they are going to do in the short term... but NDA. Still no idea about what they will change it to long term to make it good.
fucking finally! I just want to here what they have planned *or* that they have something planned. This whole thing has been ludicrously clandestine. It is a small (but important) feature of a one class from one faction, why can't they just tell me what they want to do with it? Thank you for dropping this hint. I will stop bringing the topic up for a while, hopefully us "lowly" early access folks get to hear something before release.
