I'm actually glad it's gone, I disliked all the salt on global. There's enough salt on the forums to build a monument to Gork and Mork; absolutely no need to add more tears to the mix. There have been times when global chat provided good fun for both sides, but I honestly don't see why it needs to be in.
Teams don't talk to each other as it is and global chat just adds more distraction from playing the game. I'm glad it was removed.
So is global chat really going to stay off? Have the devs even said anything on the matter? It's so dumb.
I'm trying to figure out why exactly 1/4th of the people don't want to make it on by default with an easily accessible option to disable it. People have stated good reasons, and being able to disable global chat means both parties can be happy. If it being hidden in the options isn't enough, just make it ask when you create a character : "Would you like to disable Global Chat? Some players prefer to disable Global Chat due to the somewhat aggressive/adversarial nature of the global chat in competitive games. You can change this any time under xxx--> yyy menu" Then to make sure there's no misunderstandings, make sure each box says Enable Global Chat Disable Global Chat Bam, the problem is solved @BrentEllison.
Those people don't want it on for anyone because they can't handle the bantz. People who can't handle the bantz are usually embarrassed and ashamed at their crumbling self-image. And because other people having fun killed my brother, you heartless buffoon! Therefore no one should have fun!
Or, perhaps they don't want to be distracted by worthless carp flooding the global. I see the point of the one side as, "People need to grow up and learn to take a joke. It's the internet". I see the other side as, " People need to grow up and move beyond calling random strangers named on the internet. Play the game, not the chat container". Both are valid, but due to EC staff needing to waste time investigating every abuse complaint, no matter how trivial, for legal and community relations reasons, they sided with the second group, and the first group still saying the second just needs to grow up isn't exactly helping. An easily disableable chat might cut down on the complaints, but there will still be people who think they can handle the bantz, find out they can't, and go for that report button. Persoanlly, I don't buy the argument that one needs the chat and banter to fully enjoy the game. To me, that is like someone talking loudly during a movie in a crowded theater saying they need to do so to fully enjoy the movie. Maybe, but you are disturbing the other moviegoers, and your individual rights don't outweigh the rights of others who paid just as much to see the movie. Same for any game, or public gathering for that matter. Maybe I am missing a point though.
An MMO is not a movie though.What is the point of MassiveMultiplayerOnline game if i cant interact with all these people?
