To be fair, it was pretty funny when it happened, and the guy in question has acknowledged that it did indeed happen, in another thread however many pages back. The purpose wasn't to shame, just an anecdotal account of votekick being used in a way it was not intended. I don't think it was dishonest, or underhanded, and it wasn't done to win the match. The player was just frustrated with me and wanted me out of the match, and that was the short and long of it. The post I was responding to was about people votekicking the other team to secure a win, and I was trying to explain in that response that it seemed unlikely. In your perspective (as well as a fair number of others, it's true), I'm hurling abuse, but to most people who recognize me, it's banter and trashtalk without any maliciousness, the kind that has been present in online PvP games for decades. If they couldn't muster up the votes to remove me from the match, with an organized initial effort by a clan, then it seems like it's not something that will bear worrying about later, with easy safeguards in place to prevent it from being abused. You're quite welcome for the interpretation of your words. Any time someone uses the word "toxic", they're just trying to throw extra emotional weight and gravitas onto saying, "That person did something I don't like". Hardly gymnastics to see that a clan voting together to kick one player on the other team would fall under that category for other players, is it?
Valid points, thanks for the clarification! I do get a little touchy when I see names thrown around, especially when the person isn't anywhere near the conversation. In terms of the "banter and shit talk", that might very well be the case, but it is hard to convey that to strangers over the internet. Lacking votes to kick someone is not necessarily an indication that the behavior is tolerated. Look at all the votekicks for team killers that fail. Nor is having a guild all vote "yes" necessarily an indication of malfeasance. Maybe they were all just tired of having a constant stream of "_____ is trash"coming across the global. As for the interpretation, I honestly had to reread the test you quoted like 3 or 4 times until I could kinda see how one could interpret my words that way. Hopefully the clarification worked a bit. I used the word "toxic" not to add gravitas or extra weight, just to keep consistent terminology in the thread. The OP had said he didn't see any of the toxic talk, and wanted to point out what I considered an example. Concur that shit talking has been a staple of every online game. But just because it is there, doesn't mean one has to contribute to it. Nor does it mean those that would rather just play the game should be subjected to it. Hence, my Yes, optional vote at the start.
Eh, I wasn't trying to suggest that it has to be tolerated by people, and I'm always in favor of allowing people to mute me if they want to on a personal basis. I don't ever mute anyone short of actual chat flooding as I view it as an admission of weakness, but I can understand many people do not hold that same level of detachment from chat. The point being, that if I couldn't be votekicked by the other team in the heyday of bugged shields, then it was pretty unlikely anyone could just to cheese a victory. There's 2 possible exceptions, both of whom spam profanity and capslock, but I'm certain I'm in most people's top 3 list at position number 3.
Yeah, after a couple hundred hours in game every once in awhile I'll see a d-bag in chat but usually everythings good natured
I'm sure he knows that. Dismissing anyone that doesn't appreciate his...unique...communication style as a "thin skinned millennial" (valid or not) is probably not the best way to convince the devs they can turn global chat back on in the matches and not have to deal with a bunch of "Burnboy420 called me a poopie head!!" abuse reports again.
As if said guild wasnt known to be underhanded for some time...something something eldar something something SBs etc etc.
Oh, you mean when people were trying to test Eldar on the founders' server and PG kept using JPAs against them, despite Eldar being incomplete and having no way at all to counter them, and ignoring all requests to stop?
